      • "description": "Jacqueline Ma, 36, admitted that she had groomed and sexually abused two sixth-grade students",
      • "content": "A former San Diego County Teacher of the Year who pleaded guilty to sexually abusing two of her sixth-grade students was sentenced Friday to 30 years behind bars. The sentence was part of the deal Jacqueline Ma, 36, struck in pleading guilty Feb. 5 to two counts of forcible lewd acts with a child under age 14 and also admitting to a lewd act with a child under age 14. Both children had been students at Lincoln Acres Elementary School, where Ma was a teacher. Ma also pleaded guilty to a count of possessing material containing a minor engaged in or simulating sexual conduct. The District Attorney’s Office said she groomed boys with “gifts, food and special attention and even completed their homework for them.” Before handing down the sentence, Chula Vista Superior Court Judge Enrique Camarena said Ma had cultivated the sexual relationships in plain sight over an extended period, but she was protected from scrutiny due to her status as an award-winning teacher. “This isn’t just a one-day accident, mistake, bad judgment or evil act,” Camarena said. “(The sentencing) encompasses punishment for a prolonged pattern of child sexual abuse.” Before her sentence was read, Ma was allowed to address the public and her family, who were filling a row of seats in the gallery. With her hands in cuffs, the former teacher apologized to the victims and their families, and said she had “disgraced the teaching profession.” “I abused my authority, I exerted my power and control over them, and I deceived them,” Ma said through tears. “Boys this age should be playing outside, feeling carefree ... I ripped away their childhood.” Ma went on to call her crimes selfish, said she manipulated the two boys and their families, and that her actions would be traumatizing for the victims and her community for years to come. “I lied to their faces while secretly abusing their sons,” Ma said. “I just pray for extra protection and strength for all those (affected).” Deputy District Attorney Drew Hart said after the hearing that although Ma took accountability and expressed remorse in the courtroom, he felt the sentencing was appropriate. Hart said the mother of the 12-year-old victim did not have a statement for Ma. The mother of the 11-year-old victim directed the prosecutor to tell Ma that she had trusted the former teacher and had been left speechless by her crimes. “These parents knew Ms. Ma. They knew who she was, and they trusted her,” Hart said. “And so finding out not just that their child was abused, but finding out that they were abused by someone whom they trusted with their children and to care for their children, was incredibly devastating.” In addition to paying thousands of dollars in fines and registering as a sex offender, Ma will be required to serve all 30 years of her sentence before a parole board allows her out of custody, Hart said. Ma had taught fifth and sixth grades in the National School District since 2013. In August 2022, she was one of five teachers in the region selected as a San Diego County Teacher of the Year. She was arrested seven months later. In March 2023, the parent of a 12-year-old boy reached out to National City police to report a suspected inappropriate relationship with their son. Prosecutors said Ma had been using video game chat rooms and a family tablet to communicate with the 12-year-old. Hart said the physical relationship between the two began in late 2022, a few months before the messages were found by the boy’s parents. The boy’s parents reportedly did not allow him to have social media or his own electronics. But investigators learned Ma was able to get access to him by setting up an unsanctioned after-school program and talking with him through a school chat application. The sexual assaults occurred in Ma’s classroom over the course of three months while the boy’s parents thought he was enrolled in an after-school basketball program, prosecutors said. The investigation into Ma revealed a second suspected victim — a boy who was 11 years old when prosecutors say she sent him sexually charged messages in 2020, according to testimony at her preliminary hearing. The 11-year-old boy was reportedly approached by Ma in 2020, but he fled the room, Hart said.",

      • "content": "FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- FC Fresno Academy likes to talk with its feet. \"There's a lot of talent here in the Valley,\" says coach Cris Solis. Comprised of multiple age group, the academy strives to develop players up and down the Valley. You'll find a host of medals around the necks of the 2013 team. \"There's a lot in my room. It's taking over,\" says Jordan Lugo. After losing back-to-back NorCal State Cup championships in the Premier Division, the third time was finally the charm for the club. \"They were hungry,\" Solis said. In March, the boys beat Central Valley Academy 3-0 to claim their first state cup title. \"It just felt so good,\" says Adam Maldonado. \"Like winning a World Cup, but at a young level.\" The club's founder is Ecuador native and former Fresno Pacific player, Carlos Velasco. Five years ago, the majority of the boys played for Kerman Revolution before they caught his eye. \"Not only were they quality, but the passion that they play the game, so I was impressed,\" Velasco said. Velasco's vision dates back more than a decade. Back in 2013, Velasco made a trip to Spain, determined to learn the ways of the soccer-crazed country's world-renowned academies. \"I wanted to see what they were doing there to bring here to the kids in the Valley,\" he said. After literally knocking on doors and making connections, Velasco brought the European flavor back to the Valley. It just so happens that the group born in the year he traveled to Spain has been the academy's greatest success. \"Do our best to teach the kids the game,\" Velasco said. \"Teach them also to be a good person and the abilities they have are going to dictate where they go.\" \"If they're able to go pro, then that's what we want,\" Solis said. \"But if not, they can get an education.\" For some of the boys, their goals go beyond just state cups and scholarships. \"To make it pro and play for Barcelona,\" Maldonado said. \"I just want to go pro and make my parents proud,\" Lugo said. • "content": "Don Kelly lived out his childhood fantasy by playing in the major leagues, so he couldn’t help but dare to dream about managing his hometown team while serving as Pittsburgh Pirates bench coach. Kelly’s mind couldn’t help but drift to the times he walked out onto the field as he left PNC Park, when its darkness was illuminated only by the lights from the city skyline, and thought about the players like Barry Bonds and Bobby Bonilla and manager Jim Leyland who preceded him. “Just seeing the city and being from here and seeing it lit up and how special it is,” Kelly said. “That was my team growing up, watching those guys play and compete, and I think that I dreamed of playing in the big leagues. I was blessed to be able to accomplish that, play for a long time. And then to get into coaching and to be sitting here as the Pirates manager, yes it was a dream. And I’m really humbled to be here.” Kelly was the obvious choice to replace Derek Shelton, who was fired Thursday after the Pirates got off to a 12-26 start and were in last place in the NL Central. Kelly was the bench coach who served as Shelton’s right hand for five-plus seasons, popular among players because of his positive personality, attention to detail and tireless work ethic. Those traits carried Kelly from Mt. Lebanon High School to Point Park University to becoming an eighth-round draft choice of the Detroit Tigers. A natural shortstop, Kelly proved his value by playing every position in the majors in 584 games over parts of nine seasons and learning from a Hall of Famer in Leyland. “I’m excited about the opportunity, to be honest,” Kelly said. “When we look at these things, yes, the record isn’t where any of us hope it would be right now, but there’s a lot of opportunity for growth, there’s a lot of opportunity to get better and I’m excited about that. Talking to the players earlier just challenging them. How do we show up every day? How do we show up with that enthusiasm like we did when we were in Little League, high school and bring that enthusiasm out onto the field and show up every day to get better and show up every day to help the team win a ball game? I that that’s something that I’m looking forward to from these guys, is seeing every single day that intent to get better, the intent to win and playing with that enthusiasm every single day.” That was the sentiment Kelly shared with Pirates players, one All-Star outfielder Bryan Reynolds called a “good message” and said was well-received by a team mired in the misery of a seven-game losing streak. “That’s not fun when you’re not scoring any runs and you’re not getting any hits or anything,” Reynolds said. “DK talked to us today about trying to keep that little boy in you, the little boy that loved baseball, the little boy that loves putting on his uniform and playing. I guess just being grateful and enjoying it. That will take some pressure off.” Kelly reminded the Pirates not only of their love for the game but to play it with enthusiasm, energy and attitude. He emphasized their commitment to each other and to playing the game the right way. Those proved to be problems for the Pirates under Shelton, especially at the end. “We know the game is not perfect, we’re never going to be perfect in everything that we do but holding each other accountable to that and finding a way to compete every single day with that relentlessness to chase down winning,” Kelly said. “I think when we show up that way, we show up to get better every single day, show up for each other and take that enthusiasm and energy out there and let the chips fall. We’ve got a much better team than we’ve shown so far.” Reynolds, for one, said he’s “super confident” in Kelly despite not having any managerial experience in the minor leagues or majors because of his ability to build relationships with the players. “He’s a great leader, knows the game, knows how to connect with people and he cares about us,” Reynolds said. “Lot of really good qualities. I think he’s going to do a good job.” Shortstop Isiah Kiner-Falefa believes bench coaches see the game through a different lens and that Kelly adds another dimension because of his playing experience. He knows what it’s like to bounce back and forth between the majors and minors, how to be a starter and a reserve, how to battle for the final spot on a major league roster ever year. “Everybody in here loves (Kelly), so going out, playing for him, knowing that this is his hometown, the organization means so much to him – everyone in this room wants him to stick around,” Kiner-Falefa said. “Hopefully, we can go out there, play for him and allow him the opportunity to come back and lead this organization and keep going.” Kelly, 45, played for the Pirates in 2007, when franchise icon Andrew McCutchen was still in the minors. Now in his 17th season and experiencing a midseason managerial change for the first time, McCutchen knows that Kelly can relate to the players but can’t turn around their fortunes alone. “He’s been around in the game for a while. He knows what it takes, I think,” McCutchen said. “He’s been here, he’s been in this clubhouse before. He’s been around, he has an understanding of the game of baseball. So, he’s going to do his job. But, at the end of the day, he’s not on the field playing the game. We, the team out there, have to do our job. At the end of the day, it’s the team on the field who ultimately wins.” Kelly knows this, too. But that didn’t stop him from saying that his drive to the ballpark was different Friday, allowing his mind to drift and realizing the his route. “There’s so much going on, you know, you have so many thoughts going through your mind,” Kelly said. “Just being from here, growing up in Mt. Lebanon, going to Point Park, and I’ve told people, trick-or-treating at Jim Leyland’s house and now to follow in his footsteps as the Pirates manager, just extremely humbling and excited for the opportunity.” When asked about whether the trick-or-treating trip to Leyland’s home was worthwhile, Kelly ended his introductory news conference by flashing a smile and showing his sense of humor. “That’s why we went there: They gave out the big candy bars,” Kelly said. “No cigarettes.”",

      • "content": "Fans of Tracker had plenty to say after Sunday night’s penultimate Season 2 episode , titled Rules of the Game, finally picked up threads dropped all the way back in the Season 1 finale. While the CBS series has delivered strong standalone episodes this season, some viewers are questioning the pacing of the show’s overarching mystery and hoping the finale delivers the answers they’ve been waiting for. Article continues below ADVERTISEMENT In the Season 1 closer, The Storm, fans were left with bombshell revelations about Colter Shaw’s family, particularly surrounding his father, Ashton Shaw. CNN issues devastating blow to Donald Trump in breaking news announcement 60 Minutes rips apart Donald Trump in shocking segment amid $20 billion lawsuit For much of Season 2, that storyline was put on the back burner. Instead, early episodes focused on a new recurring case, and more recently, the show has been preoccupied with the Leo Sharf (Pej Vahdat) plotline. That changed in Rules of the Game, when Colter ( Justin Hartley ) reunited with his sister Dory (Melissa Roxburgh) to retrieve their father’s long-discussed files. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Justin Hartley (@justinhartley) Dory warns him not to expect much, telling him she already searched the box herself. Still, she admits Ashton was “certainly onto something in his research,” and urges Colter not to obsess: “You know how that ends.” The two also address Ashton’s affair, revealed last season by family friend Lizzy Hawking (Jennifer Morrison), and agree not to tell their mother, Mary Dove Shaw (Wendy Crewson), anything about the box. The episode ends with Colter discovering a disconnected phone number tucked inside Ashton’s journal, teasing deeper secrets still to come. Ready for season 3,” one viewer wrote. Another added: “The suspense was so intense! It was one of the best episodes.” Others shared mixed feelings. “More on the family please,” someone suggested. “So sad that next week is the last episode before the season finale. I love this show! It’s so good!” a fan commented. Another said: “One of the best episodes of the season. Glad we’re getting back to Colter’s family mystery. I’ve really enjoyed this season but that’s been the one thing kind of missing from season 2.” With Season 2 consisting of 20 episodes, compared to just 13 in Season 1 , some fans felt that more time should’ve been spent on the core mythology. Even though earlier episodes like Ontological Shock teased new clues via Colter’s brother Russell (Jensen Ackles), the storyline seemed to vanish for over a dozen episodes. The finale, Echo Ridge, airs Sunday on CBS and Tracker streams the next day on Paramount +.",

      • "description": "On a fifth straight day of combative cross-examination, complainant faces questions about her account of events at Jack's Bar.",
      • "content": "LONDON, Ont. — On a fifth straight day of combative cross-examination, E.M. — the complainant in the Hockey Canada sexual assault trial — was challenged on her account of what transpired during a night of drinking and dancing at Jack’s bar in London, Ont., before she said she was sexually assaulted by members of the 2018 Canadian World Junior team. Advertisement In a series of tense exchanges on Friday, Daniel Brown — attorney for Alex Formenton — showed the jury previously unseen surveillance video of the night of June 18, 2018. Frame by frame, Brown outlined how the footage contrasted with the timeline of events that E.M. shared with police in interviews days after the alleged incident. “Your truth, it changes. That’s the problem,” Brown said during one exchange with E.M. “My truth hasn’t changed,” E.M. replied. Formenton, Michael McLeod, Carter Hart, Dillon Dube and Cal Foote are facing sexual assault charges stemming from the alleged incident while players were in town for a Hockey Canada event celebrating their 2018 World Junior championship. All five players pleaded not guilty to charges when arraigned in Ontario Superior Court. E.M. has testified that after a night of drinking and dancing at Jack’s Bar, she went to a hotel with McLeod and engaged in consensual sex. Afterward, she said, men showed up in the hotel room without her consent and that she was scared. E.M. said that she was asked to lay down on a bedsheet on the floor, and did so because she felt she had no choice. Over the next couple of hours, she said she was coaxed into sexual acts, was laughed at, slapped and spit on. When she tried to leave, several times, E.M. says she was pressured by the men to remain. On Friday, Brown questioned statements E.M. made to police in 2018, in which she said she only purchased a couple of drinks for herself that night. Surveillance video showed E.M. buying and consuming drinks at the bar. She has previously testified that McLeod and others she met at the bar were buying her drinks throughout the night. “It’s not on surveillance, but that doesn’t mean it didn’t happen,” E.M. said. Brown also suggested that E.M. consumed less alcohol than she has claimed because of the smaller drink sizes served at Jack’s on the discounted “dollar-beer night.” He presented the jury with a small plastic shot glass obtained from Jack’s Bar, used for “Jägerbombs,” which he said held only half an ounce of liquid. Advertisement “If you thought you had up to eight Jägerbombs that night, what you’re really saying is you had the equivalent of four shots of alcohol, correct?” Brown said. Brown later showed footage of another player, Brett Howden, dancing with E.M. near her friends for several minutes. Howden, who now plays for the Vegas Golden Knights, does not face any criminal charges. Brown asked E.M. if she was attracted to Howden. She said did not know who she was dancing with, and described being drunk and having blurry vision at the time. The clip showed them dancing closely, with Howden pressing his face close to her neck as they danced. They appeared to be holding hands. The video then showed E.M. leaving the dancefloor with Howden. Another clip showed them move to a back bar, where E.M. remained and Howden left. Howden approached McLeod, in a clip from another camera, before they both returned to the bar where E.M. can be seen typing on her phone. It was close to midnight. In her statement to police in June 2018, E.M. said that Howden passed her to McLeod on the dancefloor, and then they went to the bar where he bought her a drink. On the video, E.M. was shown purchasing a drink for McLeod. When Brown asked E.M. why she was attracted to McLeod, noting that she’d said she had blurry vision at the time, E.M. said that she liked that he was taller than her, but couldn’t recall all the details. “As long as it’s a tall guy, you’ll go home with him?” Brown asked. “No, that’s not what I said,” she said. Throughout Friday’s cross-examination, E.M. seemed to grow frustrated by Brown’s questioning of her account of the specific order of events. “Sorry I got a few details wrong when I was really drunk,” she said. Brown later revealed a Facebook Messenger conversation between E.M. and the friend she went to the bar with that night. The messages showed her friend’s attempts to locate her shortly after midnight — just after E.M. met McLeod. Advertisement E.M. has testified that she did not recall texting anyone while she was at the bar. In one text, E.M.’s friend — whom she had recently met at work — asks where she is: “Let me know if you want me to get u from the guy!!” “Haha ok than youuu!! (sic),” E.M. replied. “I’m ok for now but i’ll let you know for sure” “I’ll come back soon!” E.M. said she didn’t recall the conversation because she was drunk and with McLeod. Her friend sent her several messages and called once, but E.M. didn’t respond. Around 12:15 a.m., E.M.’s friends approached her on the dancefloor and offered her a ride home, Brown said. She declined the ride and remained with McLeod. Brown also showed a video of E.M. speaking with a bouncer — around 1:18 a.m — whom she knew from high school, at the back of the bar, near an emergency exit, for several minutes. (She was also seen on video speaking with him earlier, shortly after she arrived at the bar.) As they chatted, E.M. appeared to brace herself against a wall while they spoke, which E.M. noted was a sign of her intoxication. At the same time, a cellphone video showed McLeod dancing with a group of his friends on the dancefloor. Brown suggested that this showed that E.M. had the opportunity to leave McLeod. By that point, E.M. said, she was OK leaving the bar with McLeod. Brown also questioned E.M. as to why she hadn’t told police about the conversations at the bar with her friend, who might have been able to speak to her level of inebriation. He suggested she didn’t mention him because he would be unhelpful to her testimony that she was drunk and uncomfortable with the players at the bar. E.M. said she didn’t recall speaking with the bouncer at the bar, because she was drunk. She also said when she spoke to police she’d been focused on what happened after the bar, and her friend didn’t have any information about that. She said she was concerned about her privacy and didn’t want anyone she knew to be made aware of what had happened. Advertisement The next messages between E.M. and her friend weren’t exchanged until 9 a.m. the next morning — June 19, 2018 — when her friend messaged E.M. to see if she made it home OK. It seemed like E.M. was “having a blast with those guys,” her friend messaged. “Haha ya they were funny,” E.M. responded. Brown asked E.M. why she hadn’t told her friend what had allegedly happened at the hotel. “What do you want me to say, something horrible just happened to me and I’m going to tell this kind-of-a-stranger what just went down?” E.M. said. “I was really embarrassed. I felt so much shame. I was just messaging her as if nothing was wrong. I was coping.” “Shame and embarrassment at the choices you made,” Brown said, before signaling that he was done with his questions for the day. “Thank you, honor...” Brown started. But E.M. interrupted forcefully. “No, I’d like to finish,” she said. “I made the choice to dance with him and drink at the bar. I did not make the choice to have them do what they did back at the hotel.” “We’ll get to that on Monday,” Brown said. The cross-examination continues next week.

      • "content": "The jump from college to the pros is one of football’s biggest challenges, but former Colorado Buffaloes quarterback Shedeur Sanders made a strong first impression during the first day of Browns rookie minicamp, immediately generating buzz online around his performance. Selected in the fifth round (No.144 overall) of the 2025 NFL Draft, Sanders arrived in Ohio with both name recognition and something to prove. On the opening day of rookie minicamp, Sanders looked ready to rise to the occasion. As the son of Colorado coach and NFL Hall of Famer Deion Sanders , the spotlight on the Browns rookie has been intense. With national media coverage and a massive online following tracking his every move since the draft, he showed up looking unfazed and exceedingly comfortable. From the outset, Sanders appeared to settle in effortlessly. Before drills began, Browns cornerback Martin Emerson Jr. made it a point to introduce himself and welcome Sanders to the team. That early show of camaraderie set the tone for a practice filled with positive energy. Sanders was seen smiling and dapping up teammates throughout the day, and once the ball was in his hands, he didn’t disappoint. Videos from the session show the rookie QB firing darts to receivers in stride, demonstrating clean footwork, sharp timing, and confidence in the pocket. One throw to fellow rookie running back Quinshon Judkins drew particular attention online for its zip and accuracy. While Sanders stood out, it was quarterback Dillon Gabriel—Cleveland’s third-round pick out of Oregon—who received the first reps under center. When asked about that decision, Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski addressed it head-on: MORE: Shedeur Sanders' Wants To Build Colorado Buffaloes Into 'Super Team' With NIL MORE: LaJohntay Wester Signs Baltimore Ravens Rookie Contract, Uniform Number Revealed MORE: NFL Insider Reveals Shedeur Sanders' Standing In Cleveland Browns Quarterback Battle “Yeah, I wouldn’t look into anything,” Stefanski told reporters after practice. “You’ll see the whole weekend going through the spring—we don’t pay too close attention to who’s in there first.” If Sanders was at all bothered by starting behind Gabriel in the rotation, he didn’t show it. Sanders’ demeanor matched his on-field performance. He appeared locked in throughout the session—focused during install periods, vocal in the huddle, and upbeat between reps. He even capped off a solid first day with a touchdown pass. That ability to come prepared comes from a work ethic that’s been instilled in him for years. Sanders has consistently emphasized that preparation is what separates good from great, and he spoke about it at the 2025 NFL Scouting Combine. “It took years of years of work, work, work, work—so that’s all I know, is to work for the result I want to get,\" said Sanders. That mindset was on full display Friday. According to Akron Beacon Journal reporter Chris Easterling, Sanders was one of the final two players remaining on the field after practice, underscoring his work ethic. It’s a small moment, but one that reinforces his commitment to earning his place—not just by name, but by effort. Shedeur Sanders’ NFL career may be just beginning, but his first day on the job left a good first impression. From commanding throws to early signs of leadership, the rookie quarterback proved he’s more than just a big name—he’s ready to compete.",

Shockwave therapy, combined with \"Electromagnetic Transduction Therapy,\" or EMTT, charges the cells in the body to help with the healing and recovery process. We're signaling, using magnetic and shockwave acoustic pressure, signaling the body's own repair mechanisms,\" says Dr. Robby Pauline. Dr. Pauline says he's the first in the Central Valley to bring this type of regenerative treatment to the area. He says this type of treatment helps cut down healing time and gives him better access to tissues in the body. He walked us through how shockwave therapy works. For John Shegerian, the shockwave therapy and EMTT treatment helped with his recovery after he fractured his ankle last year. He needed 11 screws for the repair and a lot of recovery time. He said he could feel the pain in every step. \"I average about 12,000 to 15,000 steps a day,\" Shegerian said. \"There wasn't a day in my recovery that I didn't feel this hardware.\" In February this year, doctors removed the screws. On top of the exercises John does at physical therapy appointments and at home, he says the shockwave therapy and EMTT treatments help his steps feel more comfortable. \"Now, when I walk, thanks to Robbie and this technology, every step I take, I have zero pain,\" Shegerian said. \"I'm getting back to normal again. I'm only three months out since these 11 screws and plates were taken out of me.\" Dr. Pauline says the results have literally been shocking, and it's been a game changer in bringing this advanced care closer to home. • "content": "Rivalries in sports are part of what makes them great. Players take the matchups more seriously, and fans have to tune in to see how it goes. While we have to wait another year for it to come to the WNBA, Caitlin Clark has a rivalry from her days at Iowa that just got revived — though in a much more friendly way. Even though Clark isn't at Iowa anymore, plenty of players from LSU can't seem to keep her name out of their mouths. From Angel Reese to Hailey Van Lith — now WNBA rivals with the Chicago Sky — Clark is an ever-present topic of conversation. Add current LSU star Flau'jae Johnson to the list. 📲 Follow The Sporting News on WhatsApp Johnson isn't only known for her play on the court but for also dropping bars in rap songs. She is signed to Jay-Z's Roc Nation label, and in her recently released song, \"Help Me,\" she drops a lyric about Clark. Here's more on what Johnson said, and her rivalry with Clark. Flau'jae Johnson-Caitlin Clark rap lyric, explained About midway through the preview clip for her song \"Help Me,\" Johnson mentions Clark by name. The line she goes with is \"Double-C on my jacket like Caitlin Clark.\" The line is likely a nod to the Chanel logo, but Johnson could have gone any direction she wanted to with it and instead chose to shout out Clark while simultaneously bragging about her expensive wardrobe. Even if it wasn't a diss lyric, it still feels notable given their history that the LSU star decided to name-drop Clark. What has Flau'jae Johnson said about Caitlin Clark? Rivalries take many shapes and sizes. The one between Johnson and Clark has largely been respectful, with both sides talking highly of the other. They matched up twice when Clark was in college. In the first, LSU beat Iowa for the national championship in 2023. Iowa and Clark got revenge in a 2024 Elite Eight win. Here is what Johnson said about the matchups against Clark in an interview with Complex . \"I played Clark my freshman year and my sophomore year. I'm a junior, and so first year — freshman year — we got it. Second year, she got me. So me and Caitlin, we 1-1 right now. I got to wait until I get into the league to break that tie. \"She's definitely the hardest opponent I've ever had to play. She was able to just facilitate. She's like the best passer I think I’ve ever played against, ever in my life. Her and Georgia Amoore, they can really pass. I really respect the game, and I respect her skill. This is next level; it's not even close.\" Flau'jae Johnson rap career Plenty of athletes have attempted careers in music, but Johnson is one of the few who has actually been fairly successful . Johnson initially appeared on \"America's Got Talent\" as a teenager as she tried to jumpstart her rap career. She didn't win, but she advanced to the quarterfinals and kept working away at her craft. Johnson's rap career has gained traction right as her basketball stardom has grown. She released her first single in 2020 and released her debut album, \"Best of Both Worlds,\" in 2024, even featuring Lil Wayne on one song. Johnson took the stage to perform at the ESPY Awards in July 2024. Flau'jae was dropping bars on the ESPYS stage 👏 pic.twitter.com/SHl6ZuKaSQ",

      • "content": "May 9—After completing The Holdsworth Center's two-year leadership program, Ector County ISD Principal Intern Denise De Loera has been named a \"Champion of Hope\" and was honored with five other alumni at the Austin-based nonprofit's gala May 7 in Houston. Holdsworth says it transforms education through its leadership development programs to strengthen principals, superintendents, administrators and teachers. De Loera, who is at Pease Elementary currently, was recognized for her efforts to close achievement gaps, mentor teachers and inspire students to dream big and break generational cycles of poverty through educational success. She will be principal of Zavala Elementary next year. She estimated that there will be 700 to 800 students attending. Being named a Champion of Hope was an honor and humbling. \"Holdsworth has seen in me what I strive to bring to my work every day, and that's hope and belief in people and a commitment to transformational leadership. ... This recognition reminds me that the work we're doing matters and that it energizes me to keep pushing forward.\" De Loera is very excited and honored to be able to serve as principal of Zavala next fall. The campus will be going back to a kindergarten through fifth grade campus. \"I feel that with this experience of being a principal intern, I have received the proper training of being able to shadow a principal and work side by side to see how she handles day-to-day situations. That allows me to be reflective on how I will lead Zavala this upcoming year,\" she said. She spent her first day on campus in April with students on hand, which she said was a really neat experience. \"My biggest goal right now, since I have the rest of this semester and the summer, I want to be able to meet the students and start remembering their names, because I think it's important to be called by your name instead of just hey friend and not something so vague. I think it makes an impact when they know that you know their names,\" De Loera said. She added that she will be able to get guidance from Pease Principal Micah Arrott and Zavala Principal Tanya Galindo. \"The beautiful thing about this is, I feel that I've built a good network with leaders at the previous campus that I was at, at this campus, and even Zavala's current principal. They've all told me that I can reach out to them in case I have any questions. There's evident mentorship in the district, even though it's not assigned. They're willing to guide me through this transitional year,\" De Loera said. She added that the Holdsworth experience has been game-changing. \"I've worked with them for two years through the campus leadership program, and I've also have worked with them through the aspiring principal pilot year. Through the two years that I participated in the intensive leadership training and the executive coaching, it's really pushed me to grow, both personally and professionally. The program challenged me to reflect deeply, to lead with vision and clarity and to prioritize systems that build strong school culture. The Holdsworth program does a really good job at taking all of the elements that are part of leadership and breaking it down and give you that opportunity to find your areas of strength, your areas of weakness and give you the tools to grow as a leader,\" De Loera said. Winning the award means she's an example to others in her position or who aspire to be in her position. \"But most importantly, I think it's valuable for the students. I think it's important for them to see representation, and I feel that with this grand honor of being awarded a Champion of Hope, and to be able to tell my story, students see a little bit of themselves in me, and that it inspires them to dream big and achieve and not to see any limitations, \" De Loera said. She added that she didn't plan to become a principal. It happened organically. \"I don't take this responsibility lightly, and I hope that I'm able to ... make an impact on on these students, on the community,\" De Loera said. Her first year of teaching was 2018 and her first year in administration was 2022. She said the mentoring she's received has been amazing. \"Not only have I been paired up with incredible leaders, but also an amazing staff who has allowed me to learn from their approach when it comes to the learning of students, and what they focus on ... I've learned a lot about different programs,\" De Loera said. Pease is known for Blended Learning and Zavala will be implementing it next fall. Blended Learning enables students to learn with electronic and online media as well as face-to-face learning. \"I'm really blessed that I was given this opportunity to see it fully implemented on this campus. That way, I'm better prepared to guide teachers in the implementation at Zavala,\" De Loera said. Something that stood out to her about Zavala was the pride students, teachers and staff have in the school. \"I think this school is well established. It's a school that serves families that have been in Odessa for multiple generations. When I first met the faculty ... it felt like a family. I was welcomed with open arms. One of the things I told them was I'm here to support you, and in return, they said, we're here to support you. That was very neat to experience. ... I'm eager and I'm excited to be part of that,\" De Loera said. She earned an associate degree at Western Wyoming Community College and a bachelor's degree in microbiology from the University of Wyoming. De Loera got alternatively certified from University of Texas Permian Basin, and a master's degree in educational leadership, also from there. Melissa Ludwig, senior communications manager with the Holdsworth Center, said De Loera was an example of someone spreading hope, cultivating hope in their community and doing whatever it takes to \"walk alongside people and help them, especially teachers ... be effective in their roles. \"Just by being there for them and encouraging them, she has really sparked a sense of hope within the school community that she's in now. I have no doubt that she'll do the same when she's principal of Zavala next year,\" Ludwig said. Those chosen for the award are principals, assistant principals and superintendents.",

      • "content": "May 9—BRECKENRIDGE — Since his junior year at Breckenridge High School, Thomas Dittmar has been planning a career as a welder. \"I knew then that I wanted to learn a trade,\" the Texas State Technical College Welding Technology graduate said. Dittmar received a certificate of completion during last month's commencement and plans to move to Abilene to begin his career, a news release said. \"Thomas has been committed to getting better,\" said Jacob Gonzales, one of Dittmar's instructors at the Breckenridge campus. \"He has always been determined to get the job done correctly.\" Dittmar said his instructors, Gonzales and Leroy Brigman, pushed him to become a better welder. \"Jacob knows what he is talking about when it comes to welding, and Leroy is an amazing person to be an instructor,\" he said. Dittmar said the instructors offered him advice while also helping him improve his skills. \"I was able to learn a lot of new techniques that I did not know anything about,\" he said. One of those techniques was one that focuses on a certain type of material. \"I did not know how to properly do pipe welding,\" he said. \"I think now that I have some practice in, I am pretty decent at it.\" To help himself, Dittmar spent extra time in the lab honing his craft. \"I know that I cannot be late to class, but I also like to come in on my off days and get in some extra work,\" he said. \"What I have liked the most is meeting people from Breckenridge that I did not know before.\" While Dittmar said he is still searching for a job, he said eventually he would like to open his own business. He credits TSTC's Career Services department for preparing him for the job search. \"They work well with all of us to know what to expect during the job interview,\" he said. According to onetonline.org , welders can earn a yearly median salary of more than $49,000 in Texas. Welding jobs were expected to increase 11% between 2022 and 2032 in the state, according to the website. Registration for TSTC's summer and fall semesters is underway.

The-CNN-WireTM & © 2025 Cable News Network, Inc., a Warner Bros. The-CNN-WireTM & © 2025 Cable News Network, Inc., a Warner Bros. • "description": "'Angels and Demons,' 'The New Pope' and 'The Two Popes' all feature stories about the head of the Catholic Church.",
      • "content": "As the leader of the Catholic Church, the Pope’s influence is widespread — so much so that it spreads all the way to Hollywood. Over the years, the Vatican leader has been depicted across television and cinema, with some fictionalized and true-to-form retellings of the influential leader. Now, in the wake of Pope Francis’ death and the election of Robert Prevost , the first American pope, who has chosen the name Leo XIV, interest in the papacy is at an all-time high. Whether you’ve seen the Bishop of Rome portrayed in the Academy Award-winning film Conclave or through HBO’s Young Pope series, there are plenty of titles that center around the leader of the Catholic Church. Below, The Hollywood Reporter has assembled 11 films and TV shows that feature the pope. ‘The Godfather Part III’ (1990) Parts of Francis Ford Coppola’s threequel starring Al Pacino, Andy Garcia and Diane Keaton were based loosely on historical events, namely the 33-day papacy of John Paul I in 1978. Like the movie’s fictional Cardinal Lamberto (Raf Vallone), who becomes John Paul I, the real John Paul — known as “the smiling pope” — was found dead in his bed soon after becoming pontiff. ‘The Pope’s Toilet’ (2007) El Bano del Papo details the frenzied preparations by a small South American village on the border of Uruguay and Brazil ahead of an expected 1998 visit by Pope John Paul II. Written and directed by Cesar Charlone and Enrique Fernandez, the movie was Uruguay’s submission for the foreign-language film Oscar race but didn’t get a nomination. ‘Angels and Demons’ (2009) Brian Grazer and Ron Howard famously brought Dan Brown’s hit novel to the big screen with Tom Hanks reprising his role as symbologist Robert Langdon from The Da Vinci Code . The film shows Rome as it prepares for the conclave as Camerlengo Patrick McKenna (Ewan McGregor) assumes temporary control of the Vatican. It later emerges that McKenna came up with a scheme to become pope, which leads to his suicide. ‘Pope Joan’ (2009) Donna Woolfolk Cross’ historical best-seller, about a ninth century pope who actually was a woman, took longer to bring to the big screen than the reign of most pontiffs. After decades in development purgatory, German producer Constantin finally delivered — with German actress Johanna Wokalek moving from playing a terrorist in the Oscar-nominated The Baader Meinhof Complex to ascending St. Peter’s throne. John Goodman has a supporting role as wine-swilling Pope Sergius. ‘The Borgias’ (Showtime) The notorious Borgia family, the 15th century dynasty that became known for spawning the worst of the bad popes, has inspired a dozen films and TV series. In Neil Jordan’s Showtime series The Borgias , Jeremy Irons gives his Machiavellian best as family patriarch Rodrigo Borgia ‘Borgia’ (Netflix) Like The Borgias , this Netflix series centers on the Borgia family’s influence on the Vatican. Here, John Daman stars as Cardinal Rodrigo Borgia, later known as Pope Alexander VI. The show ran for three seasons, tracking the Borgia family history from 1492 all the way until 1507, four years after Pope Alexander VI’s 1503 death. ‘We Have a Pope’ (2011) Much-fêted Italian director Nanni Moretti turned his filmmaking eye to the pope with his usual dry wit. The film details the relationship between a newly elected pope and his therapist. Michel Piccoli won a best actor award at the David di Donatello Awards, Italy’s top film awards, for his turn as the head of the Catholic Church. ‘The Young Pope’ (HBO) Jude Law stars in The Young Pope as the fictitious Pope Pius XIII, accompanied by Academy Award winner Diane Keaton as Sister Mary. In the HBO series, Law’s Pope disrupts the Vatican and shifts most responsibilities to Sister Mary. ‘The Two Popes’ (2019) Before Conclave , Hollywood brought the Vatican to the silver screen with 2019’s The Two Popes , which spotlighted the story of the late Francis’ ascension (played by Jonathan Pryce) and his friendship with Pope Benedict XVI (played by Anthony Hopkins). The film grabbed three Oscar noms, including a best actor nod for Pryce for his portrayal of Francis. ‘The New Pope’ (HBO) While HBO’s The Young Pope was initially slated as a limited series, it got a sequel of sorts in The New Pope . In the 2020 series, Law reprises his role as Pope Pius XIII, though Cardinal Viglietti (Marcello Romolo) swiftly serves as his successor as Pope Francis II. However, when Viglietti is assassinated, The New Pope finds yet another new pope in Pope John Paul III (John Malkovich). ‘Conclave’ (2024) Edward Berger’s political drama depicts a fictional conclave after the pope in its story suddenly dies. Cardinal Thomas Lawrence (Ralph Fiennes) is tasked with leading the College of Cardinals’ search for the new pontiff. The film is set over three days at the Vatican in Italy, and sees Fiennes’ Lawrence investigate and uncover scandals involving potential candidates before a new pope is chosen. Conclave garnered eight Oscar noms and one win, for best adapted screenplay, at the 2025 Academy Awards.",

Experience comfort that stays with you. How the Wellnee Patch Works: Mechanism of Action The Science Behind Transdermal Therapy Unlike pills or creams, the Wellnee Pain Relief Patch uses a transdermal delivery system, allowing its herbal formula to absorb directly through the skin over time. This method ensures that the active ingredients are released gradually and precisely where they're needed—right at the source of discomfort. The idea is simple yet powerful: deliver time-tested natural ingredients directly into the tissues surrounding the joint, without disrupting the digestive system or requiring messy application. Layered Design for Targeted Performance The effectiveness of the Wellnee Patch lies in its multi-layered construction: Adhesive Layer Soft and flexible, the outermost layer sticks securely to the skin without irritation. It's designed to stay in place even during movement. Herbal Compound Layer This layer contains the proprietary blend of herbs, oils, and botanicals—carefully measured to provide long-lasting comfort through controlled release. Self-Heating Technology The patch gradually warms upon contact with the skin, enhancing circulation and helping the active ingredients penetrate more deeply into the tissue. This natural warming effect offers a soothing sensation and may assist in relieving stiffness or soreness. Note: While the patch delivers heat, it remains skin-safe and is not classified as a medical-grade thermal treatment. Comfort Throughout the Day Each patch offers up to 8 hours of relief, making it suitable for both day and night use. Users have applied it while working, exercising, or sleeping. Its discreet design means it can be worn under clothing without anyone noticing. Key benefits of this delivery system include: Non-invasive support No pills or chemical-laden creams Consistent, time-released absorption Soothing warmth to enhance relaxation Disclaimer: Results may vary depending on individual skin type, activity levels, and the nature of the discomfort being addressed. Comparing Wellnee with Other Pain Relief Methods Why the Wellnee Patch May Be a Smarter Daily Option Today's consumers are faced with a long list of options when it comes to addressing knee discomfort. From oral painkillers and muscle creams to physical therapy and even surgery, the landscape is full of choices—many of which are temporary, invasive, or inconvenient. The Wellnee Pain Relief Patch enters the scene as a natural, wearable alternative that doesn't rely on drugs or downtime. It provides targeted support in a modern format that matches the demands of everyday life. Comparing to Oral Painkillers Oral medications may offer fast relief, but they often come with potential drawbacks. Many users report side effects like stomach discomfort or dependency when used frequently. These types of treatments also work systemically—affecting the whole body instead of just the problem area. By contrast, the Wellnee Patch delivers its natural blend of herbs directly through the skin to the area that needs it most. It offers a localized experience without affecting the rest of the body and can be used routinely without disrupting digestion or sleep. Disclaimer: While prescription medication may be necessary for certain diagnosed conditions, individuals seeking more natural, daily-use options may prefer a transdermal patch format like Wellnee. Comparing to Topical Creams Topical gels and creams are another go-to for many people, but they aren't always convenient. Users often deal with greasy residue, strong odors, and the frustration of product transferring onto clothing. On top of that, creams typically absorb quickly and fade fast—offering only short bursts of relief. The Wellnee Patch avoids all of those issues. It's dry to the touch, discreet, and designed to stay in place for up to eight hours. There's no need to worry about reapplying or reactivating it throughout the day. Comparing to Physical Therapy and Surgery While physical therapy can be very effective, it requires time, money, and often transportation or insurance coverage. Surgery is reserved for more serious conditions and involves significant downtime, recovery, and risk. The Wellnee Patch, by contrast, is ready to use immediately. It requires no medical appointment, no invasive procedure, and no lengthy recovery. It's a flexible option that supports people between therapy sessions or those managing daily aches at home. Note: The Wellnee Patch is not a replacement for medical treatment or surgery, and anyone with serious or persistent joint issues should consult a healthcare provider before relying on over-the-counter solutions. Best Suited for Everyday Wellness Support Where the Wellnee Patch shines is in its role as a practical, lifestyle-based solution. • "description": "Glenelg girls lacrosse executed its trademark pressure defense on River Hill, sending the Gladiators to the regional finals.",
      • "content": "Glenelg girls lacrosse plays the long game. The Gladiators know that with their high-pressure defense and unique structure, they may surrender some early goals. However, it’s challenging for teams to compete with that unrelenting defensive intensity for 48 minutes. It was a consistent — and successful — formula throughout the season and showed itself again in Friday evening’s Class 2A West Region II semifinal at River Hill. The second-seeded Hawks struck first a minute into the game. However, Glenelg quickly recovered and locked down the Hawks, responding with nine consecutive goals to close out the first half. The defending Class 2A state champion Gladiators closed out a 17-7 win and advance to another region final. Glenelg (13-3), the third seed, will face the winner of top-seeded Damascus and No. 4 Poolesville on Monday at a time to be announced.“It’s a lot of patience on my part; it’s giving up a lot of goals,” Glenelg coach Alex Pagnotta said of learning the defense. “It cost us games early on to stick in it and learn it. That’s probably the most important thing is just to stay patient and let it evolve. Then we have to have the nuances to be able to get out of it when we need to. When that is really failing, we have to have that backup that we go into, and the changeup’s got to work.”Glenelg’s defense is one of the team’s more experienced units with junior Chloe Kennedy and seniors Ava Baer, CeCe Cassity and Madelyn Renehan. Freshman goalie Eliza Mitchell anchors the quartet of experienced defenders in front of her. That unit got plenty of action in the first quarter. The Hawks (9-6) won almost every draw and possessed the ball for much of the first 12 minutes. Yet, they were unable to find consistent openings after the first goal and generated just two shots on goal the rest of the frame.Glenelg’s defense was constantly rotating, sending a second defender to press out on the Hawks’ attackers. It’s a defensive system that employs a backer and is increasingly reliant on movement, communication and timing. Those principles are pivotal in ensuring that Glenelg sends a secondary defender to apply increased pressure at the right time. The Gladiators’ defenders rely on their instincts and also what their teammates are telling them. Glenelg’s attackers are faced with that challenge of solving that unit every day in practice, which aides them on game days.“It’s so hard. We know that we always have to keep the ball moving,” senior Kayleigh White said. “We have to trust that our teammates are going to catch the ball and that they’re going to cut and be at the right positions. Getting pressured on by the ball is definitely the hardest. Once the backer comes, you have to get out of that double so fast and pass it around.”While Glenelg’s defense was flawless for much of the afternoon, the offense showed off its unselfishness. Regan Kelleher was the quarterback of that, consistently finding open teammates with a game-high six assists. Emily Dello Russo was the primary beneficiary with a first-half hat trick, while Kaitlyn Hill netted a hat trick in the third quarter alone — all on feeds from Kelleher.Related ArticlesNo. 3 Boys’ Latin lacrosse claims MIAA A quarterfinal win over Loyola, 9-5Carroll County track and field athletes reflect on winning county championshipsBel Air’s boys lacrosse coach almost left. ‘The Huggies’ brought him back.Crofton boys, Broadneck girls track and field repeat as Anne Arundel outdoor championsFallston baseball outslugs C. The Gladiators rotate through a multitude of sets offensively, many of which are predicated on scheduled cuts. Like Glenelg’s defense, timing plays a critical factor in the execution of those sets. Glenelg attacked the Hawks’ defense in multiple ways on those cuts and showcased their versatility offensively with seven different goal scorers. With the win, Glenelg moves one step closer to repeating as state champions. While they’ve clinched another regional final berth, this year’s group features more unheralded players than the illustrious teams of the past. The Gladiators are rallying around that fact and looking forward to showing that this group can also leave their mark in both program and state history.“We all saw how exciting it was last year,” Renehan said. “We want that again. We’re willing to put in the work. We want to get there. This is just one step, but we know we can do it. Everyone’s kind of doubting us. So, this is just us showing everyone that we can do it and prove them wrong.”Have a news tip? • "content": "For decades, Alzheimer’s disease has been seen as a one-way road, a slow but inevitable decline in memory and thinking. But new research out of Harvard is beginning to challenge that assumption. A 2024 study suggests that with targeted lifestyle changes, it may be possible to reverse Alzheimer’s symptoms in the early stages, though the cure isn’t a one-size-fits-all kind of deal. The study, published in Alzheimer’s Research & Therapy, followed 50 people with early-stage Alzheimer’s over the course of 20 weeks. Instead of using medication, participants adopted a program focused on a plant-based diet, regular exercise, better sleep habits, and stress reduction. By the end of the study, many showed measurable improvements in cognitive tests. Some even regained skills like remembering names or following conversations.“To get significant results in just 20 weeks, in just 50 patients, only altering lifestyle — to be very honest, was shocking to me,” said senior author Rudolph Tanzi, a Harvard Medical School professor, in a recent statement. The findings raise the possibility that lifestyle changes alone could help reverse Alzheimer’s symptoms before the disease progresses too far.An MRI showing Alzheimer’s disease in the brain. Image source: Atthapon/AdobeOne key factor is insulin resistance, which affects the brain’s ability to process energy. By shifting to a ketogenic or Mediterranean-style diet, participants improved their brain’s energy metabolism. This, in turn, may reduce inflammation and support neural function.Other interventions focused on correcting nutritional deficiencies linked to cognitive decline to try to reverse Alzheimer’s progress. Low levels of vitamin B12, vitamin D, and glutathione, for example, have all been associated with increased Alzheimer’s risk. Improved sleep and regular physical activity also boost blood flow to the brain and promote synaptic health.Of course, not every case of Alzheimer’s will respond the same way. The study was relatively small, and most participants had sporadic (non-genetic) Alzheimer’s, which is more likely to be influenced by environmental and lifestyle factors. Experts caution that more research is needed before these findings can be broadly applied.Still, this study offers hope and a practical direction. If you or a loved one is facing early-stage Alzheimer’s, it’s worth exploring lifestyle changes under a doctor’s guidance. A diet rich in greens and omega-3s, regular movement, and solid sleep habits could do more than just slow symptoms. It might help reverse Alzheimer’s progression altogether.Don't Miss: A rare genetic mutation lets people thrive on just 4 hours of sleepThe post New study suggests Alzheimer’s may be reversible appeared first on BGR.",

      • "content": "The members of the Writers Guild of America have voted to uphold the expulsion of two writers accused of writing during the 2023 strike, but to rescind a public rebuke of a writer who made a joke on Facebook. The WGA board voted earlier this year to kick out Roma Roth and Edward Drake for performing forbidden “writing services” — what the union calls “scab writing” — during the 148-day strike. They appealed, but 54% of the voting membership backed the board’s decision in a tally that concluded on Friday. On a 62%-38% vote, the members rejected the public censure of Tim Doyle , who had faced a charge of conduct “prejudicial to the welfare of the Guild” for making an off-color joke. On the 100th day of the strike, Doyle posted a silhouette of a man hanging from a tree, in what was meant to be a morbid reference to his own suicide. Doyle apologized for the joke, which some took as a reference to a lynching. The process led to some internal concern that the WGA was going too far in policing members’ speech. The members also narrowly upheld discipline of Julie Bush , a writer accused of submitting a “scab script” to a non-signatory company during the strike. Bush was given a one-year suspension and forbidden from serving as a strike captain for life. The members voted 52%-48% to deny her appeal. “I am so grateful to the members who voted for me,” Bush said. “I believe the closeness of the vote signals that members do not like what has happened here. I have never seen a Guild vote below 90% so to me, losing by just 59 votes is meaningful.” She said she intends to continue to fight over the legality of the WGA’s action. “Now we go to the Department of Labor and the NLRB.” Roth was executive producer on “Sullivan’s Crossing,” a show filmed under Writers Guild of Canada jurisdiction in Nova Scotia. She was a dual WGA-WGC member, and worked under a waiver allowing WGA writers to work for non-signatory companies in certain cases. The waiver was terminated at the outset of the strike, which should have prevented her from writing on the show. Roth argued that she merely supervised the writers’ room, and denied breaking the rules. She also argued that under the constitution, a violation should have resulted in a fine, not expulsion. In a statement on Friday, Roth said she found it “disappointing” that WGA board members “decided to send out mass emails during the voting round to tip the scale in their favor and unfairly influence what was supposed to be a fair appeals process.” “This result will undoubtedly shape the standards by which the WGA and its Board continues to operate moving forward,” she said. “I hope members will submit their candidacy to run for the WGA Board before the May 15th deadline to address these serious issues.” Drake wrote and directed an independent film, “Guns Up,” which was filmed during the strike. He was accused of making improper script revisions during filming, and of refusing to identify a non-member who allegedly rewrote the ending. He argued that he made minor script changes, which are explicitly not under the jurisdiction of the WGA. Asked for a response to the vote, Drake sent a YouTube clip of the final scene of a classic film: “Forget it, Jake. It’s Chinatown.” Under the guild constitution, writers may appeal any discipline to the membership at an annual meeting. The WGA has not held an annual meeting for the last six years, so the board elected to hold an online vote instead. Bush has objected to the process, arguing the board had no authority to change the appeal process without a constitutional amendment. In raw vote terms, the vote was as follows: Roth: 778-639 to expel Drake: 769-652 to expel Bush: 745-686 to suspend for one year, lifetime bar from serving as strike captain, public censure Doyle: 915-557 to overturn public censure",

Another state house member also switched after Valdes.Florida Department of Education claims ‘pornographic’ books remain in Hillsborough County high school librariesOn Friday, during a stop in Jacksonville, Gov. Ron DeSantis made a claim he had mentioned before about the state of the Democratic Party in Florida.“This party is dead across the state of Florida,” DeSantis said. It’s a similar claim made by Pizzo while announcing his switch to no party affiliation. Florida Democratic Party Chair Nikki Fried said she has noticed increased support after about 25 town halls statewide this year and two recent special congressional elections. During that time, Fried said, she saw more funding and boots on the ground.“I call B.S. for so many reasons. First and foremost, we have an energized base at this moment,” Fried said.Fried said this is because of economic conditions over issues involving property insurance and uncertainty from tariffs.“People are energized by what Democrats are going to do, not only here in the state of Florida, but Washington D.C.,” Fried said.USF Political Science Emeritus Professor J. Edwin Benton questioned whether that momentum will carry over into the midterm.“Democrats are not going to win office or get votes because that's not a lasting effect,” Benton said. He’s referring to some voters looking at Democrats only as dissent toward Republicans. “They've got to resonate the message, their policy programs, (and) the things they are endorsing,” Benton said. Benton also said some fear the party may be moving too far left, making it difficult to gain additional support, especially as Sen. Bernie Sanders and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez continue to hold a series of large rallies boosting their political power.Fried believes there are many voices leading the national party.“You've got Democrats all over the country who are speaking out against what is happening,” Fried said. When asked about leadership of the state party, Fried said she takes responsibility for organizing voter outreach, listening to constituents along with elected officials, and organizing the party’s messaging. She said the key message from Democrats this year and into next year involves the economy.“The fact that our state is unaffordable. That economic message continues into '25 and '26,” Fried said.Orlando-based U.S. Rep. Maxwell Frost and Sen. Chris Murphy from Connecticut are scheduled to be in Sarasota over the weekend for a rally.DeSantis and Fried also criticized some of the politicians who have switched parties recently. They both think it was done for each politician’s personal gain. DeSantis went on to say that he found the new GOP members mostly aligning with Democrats in Tallahassee. The office of Rep. Valdes didn’t respond to News Channel 8's request for comments. The Florida Republican Party has more than 1.2 million more registered voters in the state than Democrats.",

      • "description": "He was arrested by ICE Friday afternoon",
      • "content": "Newark Mayor Ras Baraka was released Friday night after being held following his arrest outside the gates of an immigrant detention facility. Baraka walked out of U.S. Custom Services in Newark shortly before 8 p.m. He was arrested around 2:40 p.m. by ICE officers outside the Delaney Hall immigrant detention facility in Newark after he was physically dragged through the gate and placed in handcuffs. U.S. Attorney Alina Habba said Baraka was trespassing and “ignored multiple warnings” from Homeland Security Investigations to leave the property. “He has willingly chosen to disregard the law,” she said on X. “That will not stand in this state. He has been taken into custody. NO ONE IS ABOVE THE LAW.” Baraka, who is a Democratic candidate for governor in the June primary election, was outside the gates of Delaney Hall, a facility he has opposed Friday afternoon. He had been with three members of New Jersey’s congressional delegation - U.S. Reps. Rob Menendez, LaMonica McIver, and Bonnie Watson Coleman - who had come to inspect the facility. Baraka was allowed to enter the gates to the facility but wasn’t allowed into the building with the other elected representatives. He was told he had to go outside the gate and an aide to one of the congresspeople informed Baraka that ICE were discussing arresting him. Video taken at the scene showed the moments leading up this arrest. Warning: The following video contains explicit language. Baraka and other city officials went to Delaney Hall to serve summonses on its private owner-operator, the GEO Group of Boca Ratón, Florida. The summonses assert that GEO has refused to grant fire and code officials access to Delaney Hall and has placed a padlock on the gate, violating state law. City officials had tried to serve the summonses on the GEO Group on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, when a company representative refused to accept them each time, forcing city officials to leave them on the gate, a retractable chain link fence topped with razor wire. Opposition to Delaney Hall’s reopening intensified in February when ICE and the GEO Group announced they had reached a deal for the company to operate the facility under a 15-year contract worth $1 billion to the GEO Group. In a tightly packed six-way race for the Democratic primary, Baraka has a base in Newark, is making a big appeal to Black voters and gained support from progressive groups, most notably opponents of President Donald Trump’s immigration policies. Politicians, including fellow Democratic and Republican candidates for governor, took to social media to either voice their support or condemn Baraka.
