      • "description": "About 100 million less people are expected on Indonesia's roads in this annual exodus for the holiday that marks the end of the Islamic holy month of Ramadan.",
      • "content": "JAKARTA: Every year, Faisal Ikhrom and his mother make the lengthy journey from Jakarta, where they live, to their hometown on the East Java island of Madura to celebrate Eid al-Fitr. The trip takes at least 15 hours due to multiple stops and road congestion, but reunites the family for the holiday that marks the end of the Islamic holy month of Ramadan. However, they are travelling separately this year as getting an affordable bus ticket has not been easy – cheaper fares are few and far between, and are snapped up as soon as they are released. \"We have gone back and forth twice to buy our tickets, because the price was still not suitable for us,” Faisal told CNA as he sent his mother off at a bus station last Saturday. The 23-year-old, who works as a barista in a Jakarta cafe, hopes to be able to clinch a ticket before Eid, which falls on Mar 31. Around the same time last year, they paid US$39 for a ticket each way. This time, the price has soared to upwards of US$50. With the price tag so steep, his older brother has made plans to stay in the capital for the holiday instead of travelling home. DRASTIC DROP IN TRAVELLERS Faisal’s family is not the only one that will be missing their loved ones this holiday season. A survey by the nation’s Transportation Policy Agency showed there will be almost 100 million fewer Indonesians on the road during this year’s travel rush, mostly deterred by high transportation costs Nearly 147 million people are expected to journey home over this period, significantly less than last year’s 242 million. With lesser travellers, bus operators are feeling the pinch. Bus service company Pandawa 87, which operates several routes in East Java, said business has been quieter. “There is clearly a big drop (in passengers) this year (compared with) last year – we can say it is more than 50 per cent,” said its manager Hadi, who like many Indonesians goes by one name. MORE TRAIN SERVICES Rail remains a popular mode of transportation for Indonesians during homecoming travel as trains are much faster than road vehicles that are often plagued by traffic conditions. Madam Karya, for instance, used to travel to Central Java by minivan in the past – a journey that took almost a full day and night from the capital. \"The minivan will depart at 8am, but it makes many pickup stops first. (We) arrive at our house in Central Java at 4am the next day,” she told CNA. This year, she and her husband managed to score train tickets and are looking forward to a much shorter trip of about five to six hours. Train frequencies have been increased to cope with the annual exodus, with more than 4.5 million train tickets provided nationwide. But like buses, cheap seats – which start at US$6 – sell out fast. CONGESTION TO CONTINUE ON ROADS Still, 147 million people on the move represent some 52 per cent of Indonesia’s 281 million population and heavy traffic is expected across the nation. Authorities have taken steps to mitigate congestion by issuing advisories, making available more transportation and deploying security personnel. To offset the high prices, some state-owned businesses have also offered discounts, promotions and free trips home. Analysts said that Indonesia’s budget efficiency measures are hurting the economy, and urged authorities to boost spending. \"(Indonesia’s) strategy was wrong from the start. The budget efficiency measures were too excessive,” said Eko Listiyanto, a director at the Jakarta-based Institute for Development of Economics and Finance. He added that the measures “went too far” and impacted household essentials, not just in urban areas but also in the countryside. “Everyone is affected. Not going home doesn’t mean not wanting to go home, but not able to go home because money is tight,” he said.",

• "content": "Articles in the media have begun to appear stating that Vladimir Putin allowed migrants to work in Russia without a patent. However, this rule only applies to Donbass and the southern regions of Ukraine that have come under Russian control. Vladimir Putin a decree extending migrants' ability to work in the new regions without a patent, specifically: the Donetsk and Luhansk People's Republics (DPR and LPR), as well as the Zaporizhzhia and Kherson regions. This option has existed since April 2023 but has now been extended until December 31, 2025. A patent is not required only in the new regions: DPR, LPR, Zaporizhzhia, and Kherson regions. In all other areas, working with a patent is required. It is important to note that all the aforementioned territories are combat zones. Being there puts one's life at risk. Those wishing to work in these new regions will not need a patent, but they will have to submit fingerprints to the local Ministry of Internal Affairs and undergo a medical examination to confirm that they do not use drugs or suffer from serious infectious diseases or HIV. Usually, for employers to hire migrants, they need to obtain the appropriate permit. They must also consider the allowable share of migrants they can employ. However, in the new regions, there is no such limitation for employers. The patent, which grants foreign nationals from visa-free countries the right to work, consists of three components: a basic rate (1,200 rubles), a deflator coefficient (2.594), and a regional coefficient set by the authorities of the Russian Federation's subject. The most expensive patent in 2025 will cost 17,120 rubles in Krasnodar Krai, followed by Chelyabinsk Oblast (15,000 rubles) and Tver Oblast (14,973 rubles). The cheapest patent is in Chechnya at 3,113 rubles. As notes, discussions between the U.S. and Ukraine are ongoing, and the final draft may change. However, Kyiv remains skeptical. High-ranking Ukrainian officials have stated that the U.S. proposal could undermine Ukraine's sovereignty and increase the country's dependence on Washington. Officials are concerned that the U.S. may add provisions about nuclear power plants to the agreement during negotiations, although this is not mentioned in the current draft. • "description": "Mohamed Rashid Ahmad, 70, was stationed at the checkpoint and tasked to assist passengers with their arrival cards.",
      • "content": "SINGAPORE: While working at the Woodlands Checkpoint, a man molested an 18-year-old girl as he assisted her in filling out her SG Arrival Card. Mohamed Rashid Ahmad was sentenced to five months’ jail on Friday (Mar 28) after pleading guilty to one charge of using criminal force with the intent of outraging a person’s modesty. The court heard that at the time of the offence, the 70-year-old was an employee of Forte Employment Services and was deployed as a customer service officer at Woodlands Checkpoint. As part of his employment, he was stationed at an area designated for passengers to fill out their arrival cards and was tasked to assist passengers with that. On Jul 26, 2024, sometime before 11.10am, the victim – who cannot be named due to a gag order – arrived at the checkpoint together with her mother and aunt. They had travelled to Singapore with the intention of having a day trip before leaving for Malaysia on the same day. However, when they arrived at the checkpoint, only the victim’s mother and aunt were able to obtain immigration clearance using the automated lanes at the passenger halls. Facing issues with her arrival card, the victim went to fill out a new arrival card and was approached by Rashid, who offered his assistance. The victim – a Chinese national – handed her passport to him, which he took and scanned using a tablet. He then asked her to verify that her particulars were correct and instructed her to fill out her arrival card by keying in the required details into the tablet. As she filled out her card, Rashid used the back of his hand to tap the victim’s groin. Thinking that it was unintentional, she initially ignored his actions. However, when he continued to touch her multiple times in the same region, she began to feel uncomfortable and took a step backwards to create some distance between herself and the accused. Rashid then placed his hand behind her back and pushed her forward, bringing her closer to the tablet and to him, before continuing to tap her in the same region. The court heard that the victim felt extremely uncomfortable and fearful because of his actions. When she finished filling out her arrival card after about 15 minutes, she left the area and recounted the incident to her mother who proceeded to inform an officer at the checkpoint. Rashid was subsequently identified and arrested. On Friday, Deputy Public Prosecutor Daniel Ong sought a sentence of four to five months’ jail. “There was some degree of an abuse of position by the accused, as he was employed as a customer service officer deployed at Woodlands Checkpoint and was acting as a staff with the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority,” said Mr Ong in his submission, adding that this afforded him the opportunity to be in close proximity to the victim. “The accused exploited this opportunity, and the victim’s reliance on him for assistance, to commit the offence. It is also aggravating that the accused pushed the victim closer towards him after she tried to put some distance between herself and him.” For using criminal force with the intent of outraging a person’s modesty, Rashid could have been jailed for up to three years and/or fined, and/or caned.",

The products will allow investors exposure to high-quality money market instruments via blockchain-based tokens, enhancing asset allocation and risk management capabilities, the firms said. \"Under the current market trend of compliance, we expect more traditional financial institutions to actively enter the crypto finance sector through innovative tokenisation products,\" said Dr. Xiao Feng, chairman and CEO of HashKey Group. The ETFs will be issued on HashKey Chain, the company's proprietary blockchain platform. HashKey Exchange, which became Hong Kong's first licensed crypto trading platform to serve retail investors in August 2023, is currently the largest regulated virtual asset trading venue in the territory. • "description": "SHENZHEN, China, March 28, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- Pony.ai (NASDAQ: PONY) became the first company authorized to operate paid fully-driverless robotaxis in Shenzhen's Nanshan District on March 27, marking a milestone as the city's inaugural permit for paid autonomous ride-hailing services within its city centers. Pony.ai granted permit to operate paid, fully-driverless robotaxis in Shenzhen’s Nanshan district The company further solidifies its leadership by expanding commercial operations to connect Nanshan with its existing service zone in Baoan District, covering two of Shenzhen's most dynamic urban areas. Nanshan District, Shenzhen's economic powerhouse with a GDP nearing RMB1 trillion in 2024 and close to 2 million residents, surpasses the population of cities like San Francisco. By deploying here, Pony.ai addresses the growing demand for smart mobility solutions in a district that blends rapid innovation with a high concentration of businesses and commuters. This expansion builds on Pony.ai's successful launch of robotaxi services in Shenzhen's Baoan District in 2024, where more than 4 million people reside. The latest permit enables the company to establish Shenzhen's first cross-district driverless network, linking Nanshan's tech hubs (including Qianhai, Houhai, and Shenzhen Bay) with Baoan's central areas and critical infrastructure such as Shenzhen Baoan International Airport. Commuters now enjoy seamless connectivity between business, residential, and transport hubs. Shenzhen's dense urban environment—characterized by tunnels, heavy traffic, narrow lanes, and irregular intersections—demands rigorous performance from autonomous technology. Pony.ai's fleet has demonstrated exceptional proficiency in these scenarios, underscoring the maturity and robustness of its systems. The company continues to lead autonomous mobility innovation across China's tier-1 cities, with fully-driverless robotaxis in Beijing and Guangzhou averaged over 15 daily paid rides per vehicle in the first six months of 2024 as passenger confidence grows. To date, Pony.ai has accumulated nearly 45 million kilometers in autonomous testing, including 5 million kilometers in driverless mode. James Peng, CEO of Pony.ai, emphasized: \"Expanding our fully driverless commercial robotaxi services to the vibrant city centers of Shenzhen will accelerate public adoption, as well as inspire confidence and trust in fully driverless technology as we deploy its application to daily urban use cases.\" Residents in authorized zones can book rides via Pony.ai's app or WeChat mini-program. Operating daily from 7:30 AM to 10:00 PM, the service provides a reliable, weather-resistant commute option, positioning itself as an \"all-weather mobility assistant.\" Through relentless technological innovation and real-world validation, Pony.ai is driving the transition toward a future where autonomous vehicles are integral to everyday life. \"As one of the few companies globally with fully driverless autonomous driving solutions, we remain firmly focused on scaling our robotaxi operations and guiding the industry into its next phase of development,\" said James Peng. • "content": "SINGAPORE: Singapore's United Overseas Bank (UOB) has rejected allegations raised by the former CEO of Yang Kee Logistics Ken Koh, calling them \"baseless and defamatory\". The Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) also issued a statement on Friday (Mar 28) to clarify that the regulator has responded to the matter raised by Mr Koh. The response comes after The Online Citizen website posted an article and video on Thursday, alleging that UOB acted against the interests of Yang Kee Logistics. \"We are aware of certain allegations which have surfaced against us,\" UOB said in a Facebook post. \"We have rejected these allegations as they are baseless and defamatory. The bank will be taking appropriate actions against the parties who published these allegations,\" the post said. It added that it takes feedback and concerns seriously and that UOB is committed to servicing its customers with integrity and fairness. In the video posted by The Online Citizen, Mr Koh made several allegations against UOB and the conduct of its executives over the sale of Yang Kee’s properties to logistics real estate company Logos, including the handling of confidential information. Mr Koh has made a statutory declaration on the events that transpired. The Online Citizen also put up an audio recording of Mr Koh’s conversations with two persons, one of whom is alleged to be a UOB senior executive. A statutory declaration is a statement that is sworn to be true before a commissioner for oaths. No changes can be made after affirming the declaration unless the commissioner for oaths is present. Mr Koh also claimed that he had reported UOB's actions to the authorities, including MAS, and sent them evidence but there has been no response after five weeks. MAS refuted this in its statement, saying that it responded to Mr Koh on Feb 28 and Mar 17 to inform him that his allegations of improper conduct were being looked into. \"Any suggestion that MAS has not responded or is not following up is false. Allegations of any legal or regulatory breach will be looked into,\" the regulator said. In response to CNA’s queries, MAS did not say if it was still investigating the matter. Yang Kee Logistics was founded in 1990 by Mr Koh Yang Kee, who is Mr Ken Koh's father. He started the business with two trucks before introducing warehousing services three years later. The company expanded to Malaysia in 2003 before opening warehouses and offices in Thailand, Indonesia, Hong Kong and China. It also acquired Axima Logistics in Australia. However, the company became insolvent and went into receivership in May 2022, meaning that an external party was appointed to take control of Yang Kee's assets. The receivers began a sales process in July 2022.",

• "description": "Research teams judged on concrete proposals toward practical application of quantum computing KAWASAKI, Japan, March 28, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- Fujitsu today announced the winners of its Quantum Simulator Challenge 2024, a competition to foster open innovation and identify practicial use cases for quantum computing. The awards ceremony will take place at Fujitsu Quantum Day 2025 Japan, an event for the quantum community, to be held on Friday, March 28, 2025, at Fujitsu Uvance Kawasaki Tower. The Quantum Simulator Challenge, held for the second time in 2024, saw teams from academia and industry compete to develop quantum applications on Fujitsu's 40-qubit quantum computer simulator, one of the largest of its kind in the world. The competition attracted 46 teams from 13 countries and regions who competed for a total prize fund of US$100,000. The collective usage of the quantum simulator by all participants during the competition period amounted to 2,282 job executions and 14,500 operational hours. The first prize went to Delft University of Technology for its project 'Industrial Shift Scheduling on the Fujitsu Quantum Simulator'. This project carried out a simulation to verify the optimization of the allocation of working hours for the different steps of a vehicle assembly and painting line. The simulation was based on the open-source Quantum Industrial Shift Scheduling (QISS) algorithm developed by the university, which enables the identification of the optimal shift scheduling solution. The project used up to 39 qubits and demonstrated that quantum computing technology can contribute to solving massive industrial optimization problems and was highly praised for its uniqueness and usefulness. Second prize was awarded to Technische Universität Ilmenau for their project \"QuPIV - Quantum algorithm for cross-correlation analysis in particle image velocimetry\" which presented a quantum solution for large-scale fluid analysis and utilized up to 32 qubits. • "content": "TOKYO : The Bank of Japan could take another key step toward diminishing its huge presence in the bond market next week, when it releases its bond-buying plan for the second quarter that may include a cut in the size of super-long bond purchases, analysts say. Under a quantitative tightening (QT) programme laid out in July, the BOJ has been slowing bond purchases by around 400 billion yen ($2.65 billion) per quarter to halve monthly purchases to 3 trillion yen by March 2026. But it has refrained from reducing purchases of super-long government bonds as it focused on tapering other maturities, particularly the benchmark 10-year notes it has amassed during a massive stimulus programme that ended in March last year. Reducing purchases of super-long bonds would reinforce the BOJ's resolve to continue policy normalisation by phasing out remnants of a decade-long stimulus programme undertaken by former Governor Haruhiko Kuroda since 2013 to break Japan out of deflation and economic stagnation. Having made progress in tapering shorter-dated bonds, the BOJ may begin reducing purchases for super-long bonds with maturity of 10-25 years as soon as in April, said analysts and sources familiar with the central bank's thinking. The BOJ will announce on Monday its bond buying plan for the April-June period that includes a breakdown of how much it will keep buying for each maturity zone. Katsutoshi Inadome, senior strategist at Sumitomo Mitsui Trust Asset Management, expects the BOJ to start reducing purchases of super-long bonds from the April-June quarter. \"Any such move would herald the start of a full-fledged reduction in the BOJ's super-long bond buying, and trigger a sell-off in bonds of that zone,\" he said. In the current quarter, the BOJ buys 4.5 trillion yen worth of bonds per month, of which 450 billion yen are those with maturity of more than 10 years and up to 25 years - categorised as super-long bonds. The BOJ last year pulled short-term rates out of negative territory and ended a policy capping bond yields around zero, on the view Japan was on the cusp of durably hitting its 2 per cent inflation target. It raised its short-term policy rate to 0.5 per cent in January and signalled readiness to keep hiking rates if economic and price developments move in line with its forecasts. Aside from hiking short-term rates, the BOJ is seeking to gradually reduce the size of its huge balance sheet. It owns roughly half of outstanding JGBs in the market with its bond holdings now around 600 trillion yen - roughly the size of Japan's gross domestic product (GDP). While market bets of a near-term rate hike have pushed up long-term rates this month, such market moves alone won't prevent the BOJ from tapering steadily, one of the sources said. Prospects of further rate hikes have pushed the 10-year JGB yield to a more than 15-year high of 1.59 per cent on Thursday, before falling to 1.565 per cent on Friday. The BOJ's current QT plan runs through March 2026. Its taper plan for April 2026 onward will be decided in June. ($1 = 150.8100 yen)",

• "description": "Both ministers have been granted permission to serve court papers on Xu in Taiwan, where he currently resides.",
      • "content": "SINGAPORE: The chief editor of socio-political website The Online Citizen (TOC), Terry Xu, is waging a public campaign to gain sympathy and support from Singaporeans, Law and Home Affairs Minister K Shanmugam and Manpower Minister Tan See Leng have alleged in a lawsuit against Xu. Documents obtained by CNA on Friday (Mar 28) show that the ministers filed claims against Mr Xu, whose full name is Xu Yuanchen, on Jan 6 this year and have since been granted permission to serve court papers on him in Taiwan. The defamation suits relate to a TOC's article titled \"Bloomberg: Nearly half of 2024 GCB transactions lack public record, raising transparency concerns\". The article comments on a Bloomberg article that is also the subject of defamation proceedings by the ministers. The Bloomberg article, titled \"Singapore Mansion Deals Are Increasingly Shrouded in Secrecy\", was published on Dec 12, 2024, and speaks about Good Class Bungalow (GCB) transactions in Singapore. Both ministers have sued Bloomberg and its reporter , Low De Wei, for libel. TOC's article, which referred to and commented on Bloomberg's article, was also published on Dec 12, 2024, and remains accessible as of Friday morning. Dr Tan and Mr Shanmugam are represented by the same legal team from Davinder Singh Chambers: Senior Counsel Davinder Singh, Mr David Fong, Ms Sambhavi Rajangam and Mr Adam Lau. This is not the first time Mr Xu has faced legal action from a minister. He was previously sued by then-Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong over another TOC article about Mr Lee's dispute with his siblings - Dr Lee Wei Ling and Mr Lee Hsien Yang - over their family home at 38 Oxley Road. Mr Xu, then still residing in Singapore, lost that defamation suit and was ordered to pay S$210,000 in damages to Mr Lee in September 2021. Separately, Mr Xu was sentenced to three weeks' jail by a district court in April 2022 for defaming Cabinet members. Upon appeal, the sentence was changed to an S$8,000 (US$6,000) fine in May 2023. By then, however, Mr Xu had already served the three-week jail term and had relocated to Taiwan, where he continues to write articles for TOC. EFFORTS TO REACH XU IN TAIWAN In addition to filing their claims, the two ministers detailed efforts to reach Xu in Taiwan. These include them submitting affidavits in support of their application for leave to file papers on Mr Xu outside of Singapore. The ministers submitted a request to have their originating claims, statements of claim and court orders sent through \"the proper channel to Taiwan for service\" on Xu on Feb 26. The destination specified was an address in Zhongshan District, Taipei. They also submitted a translation certification stating that the three documents, along with a fourth, had been translated from English into Mandarin by a team of translators, as required under the Rules of Court. In its latest document - a letter to the Supreme Court dated Mar 11 - the ministers' lawyers said that Xu had not yet been served papers. It referred to its request to the Supreme Court on Feb 26, saying that this had been accepted and assigned a case number. However, no further updates had been received as of Mar 11. In response to CNA's query on whether the ministers had formally served papers on him in Taiwan, Mr Xu replied \"no\", without elaborating further. MINISTERS' CASE AGAINST XU Similar to their lawsuits against Bloomberg and reporter Low De Wei, both ministers are seeking unspecified damages and costs against Mr Xu, along with an injunction to restrain him from publishing or disseminating defamatory allegations. In largely similar Statements of Claims, the two ministers identified the offending words in TOC's article and state that Mr Xu had published them - or caused them to be published - across social media and broadcast messaging platforms, such as X, Telegram, WhatsApp, Instagram and Facebook. They argued that the offending words are understood to \"falsely mean that (the ministers are) part of an opaque system with no safeguards or disclosure requirements, exploited legal mechanisms for privacy in selling (their) property in a non-transparent manner, to keep (their) transaction secret and to avoid scrutiny, and thereby acted improperly\". The words are \"false and baseless\" and are \"calculated to disparage and impugn\" the ministers, the documents stated. The documents pointed out that the article and social media posts were also republished on various websites and forums, such as SG Talk and Reddit. \"The claimant has been gravely injured in his character and reputation, and has been brought into public scandal, odium and contempt\" and has suffered \"loss and damage\", the documents stated. The documents noted how Mr Xu was sent a letter of demand on Dec 19, 2024, calling for the article to be removed and a public apology, among other demands. However, Mr Xu has not complied and has continued to draw attention to the article and posts through follow-up content, the ministers said. \"The defendant waged and continues to wage a public campaign to gain sympathy and support from Singaporeans against the claimant by publicly and falsely accusing him (of) 'suppress(ing) legitimate journalism' and 'press freedom' through 'legal threats' or 'harassment',\" the documents said. • "description": "Wicked the musical is back in Singapore, showing at the Sands Theatre now. Here’s an exclusive look behind the scenes, including operating the Oz Head and Bubble flight machine, as well as a transformation into the iconic character Elphaba.",
      • "content": "Ever wondered what it takes to be Popular in the land of Oz? Wicked the Musical is back in Singapore, showing at the Sands Theatre at Marina Bay Sands from now until Apr 27. I t’s the third staging in Singapore after popular runs in 2016 and 2011. CNA Lifestyle went behind the scenes of the Broadway blockbuster to unveil the magic behind the emerald curtain where I even got the chance to be transformed into the wicked witch of the west, Elphaba. I also spoke with cast members Courtney Monsma, who plays Glinda, and Zoe Coppinger, who plays Elphaba, to learn some of the set’s secrets. For those new to the musical, Wicked tells the story of two witches, Elphaba and Glinda, before and after the arrival of Dorothy in Oz as told in L Frank Baum's classic novel The Wonderful Wizard Of Oz. It's loosely based on the novel by Gregory Maguire. Here are five things I uncovered that you may not know happens behind the scenes at Wicked: 1. OPERATING THE OZ HEAD IS AN ARM WORKOUT Did you know that one of the set’s biggest pieces, the Oz Head, is manually operated during the show? By swivelling different handles and squeezing levers, Lily, the operator, is able to trigger different parts of the Oz Head’s facial expressions from its eyebrows lifting to its mouth opening and closing. Built to represent the face of the character Wizard of Oz who controls the land of Oz in the show, listening to the sound cues while simultaneously animating the heavy Oz Head’s every movement takes a lot of coordination and practise. The actor that plays the Wizard of Oz, too, is behind the head with the operator, narrating as she controls the set piece. “It takes a bit of getting used to, that’s for sure,” Lily admitted. “Luckily the audience is pretty forgiving, so although it translates if you’re a second later on the sound cue, it still relates back to the audience.” 2. THE BIRD'S-EYE VIEW FROM THE BUBBLE FLIGHT MACHINE A ride on Glinda’s iconic bubble flight machine truly feels like a princess fairytale moment. Suspended high above the stage, Glinda makes her signature grand entrance in the show as she gracefully floats down in an ornate mechanical contraption, surrounded by bubbles. This iconic moment instantly sets the tone for her whimsical and glamorous character. From the top, I took in a bird’s-eye view of the entire auditorium, where even the farthest corner seat of the theatre was visible in detail. “It has come to be one of my favourite places to be – up in the sky, I feel nice and safe up there,” said Monsma. “There are a few bubbles that get into my eye sometimes when I’m singing so I usually just pop them,” she added, laughing. “It’s really cool when I go up; the bubbles are like mirrors and I can see the reflection of me as Glinda in the bubble, which is really strange.\" 3. GLINDA AND ELPHABA'S CHEMISTRY As much chemistry as Glinda and Elphaba share on stage, Monsma and Coppinger have an equally – if not more – genuine friendship behind the scenes. Before their scenes, the stars often share a knowing look or give each other support. “Zoe and I also have a little moment before we bow just behind the clock face where we kind of are dancing, and as soon as the clock face opens (to reveal Glinda and Elphaba), we are very serious,” she said while laughing. “We also have a little fun moment before (singing) Defying Gravity every night – I turn around to Courtney and we either do something silly to each other or we just check in with each other before we go on,” Coppinger said. Monsma said about her co-star: “I think another one of the special moments is when Elphaba is singing, there are sometimes a lot of people in the wings (of the stage) watching and just being in awe and just fangirling over what Wicked is.” When asked about performing Popular, one of the most iconic and upbeat songs sung by Glinda, Monsma said: “Honestly it’s my favourite part of the show.” “But my favourite thing about it is sharing it with Elphaba – it’s just the two of us on stage. Zoe gives me those little looks in her eyes that make me giggle or make me feel comforted when I’m really tired.” 4. LEARNING TO DANCE WITH THE EMERALD CITY CAST Decked out in emerald couture and exuding class and wealth, the dance cast of the Emerald City took me through a short dance routine for one of the numbers in the play, One Short Day, where the dancers took turns walking down the stage, hitting an Ozian pose at the end. The dance captains explained that “champagne hands” was one of the essential pieces of Ozian choreography which consists of a flick of the wrist “as if you’re holding a really expensive glass of champagne”. Not to forget their signature green circular glasses, a vital accessory which they all wear while performing the number. 5. IT'S NOT EASY BEING GREEN Concluding our backstage tour was my transformation into Elphaba, stepping into the shoes (literally) of the wicked witch of the west. As I sat in Elphaba's makeup room, covered in green paint in many corners, the makeup artists explained that a custom shade of green had to be mixed specifically for Elphaba’s makeup look and layers of powder were packed on to make the paint as transfer-proof as possible. But when the transformation was finished, walking around in the full get-up certainly made me feel a certain edge that Elphaba's character has. The toughest part was definitely removing all that green makeup – especially around the hairline and ears, which took almost as long to remove as it did to apply. However, it did allow me to hang on to my transformation into the iconic character just a little bit longer. Wicked is showing at the Sands Theatre at Marina Bay Sands from now until Apr 27. • "content": "Snow White producer Marc Platt’s son Jonah is blaming the film’s lead, Rachel Zegler, for posting her ‘personal politics’ on social media, which he believes hurt the Disney movie’s box office performance. Zegler, 23, who plays the titular princess, extended support for Palestinian people after sharing the first trailer of the film in August 2023. “And always remember, free Palestine,” she wrote in a tweet that garnered over 14.5 million views. This prompted Disney executives to immediately get in touch with Zegler’s team, and Marc Platt reportedly even boarded a flight to New York to speak with Zegler in person. Now, his son, Jonah Platt, 38, who is known for her roles in Netflix’s Uncoupled, defended his father in a since-deleted Instagram comment when a user called Marc Platt “creepy” for reprimanding a young actor. “You really want to do this? Yeah, my dad, the producer of enormous piece of Disney IP with hundreds of millions of dollars on the line, had to leave his family to fly across the country to reprimand his 20 year old employee for dragging her personal politics into the middle of promoting the movie for which she signed a multi-million dollar contract to get paid and do publicity for,” wrote Jonah. there’s no way pic.twitter.com/SZyjgZa6yf — alex (@zeglerapp) March 26, 2025 He continued, “This is called adult responsibility and accountability. And her actions clearly hurt the film’s box office. Free speech does not mean you’re allowed to say whatever you want in your private employment without repercussions. Tens of thousands of people worked on that film, and she hijacked the conversation for her immature desires at the risk of all the colleagues and crew and blue-collar workers who depend on that movie to be successful. Narcissism is not something to be coddled or encouraged.” Zegler’s political stance affected her co-star Gal Gadot, who reportedly began receiving death threats. Gadot has been an advocate for Israel and has also served as a combat fitness instructor in the Israeli military for two years. Months following Zegler’s post, Gadot also extended her support for Israel on Instagram, “I stand with Israel, you should too. The world cannot sit on the fence when these horrific acts of terror are happening!\" Snow White is now playing in theatres near you.",

      • "content": "The operation's goal is to combat illegal migration within CSTO member nations, identify and suppress illegal migration channels, and prevent unlawful actions related to migration. The heads of national CSTO headquarters reportedly discussed the concept of the operation, agreed on the timeline for active measures, and clarified procedures for cooperation and information exchange between competent authorities. The operation will be carried out in several stages and is expected to be an important step in stabilizing the migration situation in the region, the statement notes. Previously, it was reported that during the \"Illegal-2024\" operation in Moscow, more than 13,000 violations of migration laws were identified. As a result, over 10,000 foreign nationals were held accountable for violating entry, exit, and residency rules in the Russian Federation; around 1,500 for residency violations, and over 600 for breaches of labor activity regulations. The Moscow Police Directorate initiated 420 criminal cases under the Russian Criminal Code for organizing illegal migration. The comprehensive operational and preventive operation “Illegal-2024,” aimed at identifying and suppressing illegal migration channels, began in Russia on September 30, 2024. In the fall of last year, Tajik authorities repeatedly expressed concern to the Russian side about violations of the rights of Tajik citizens in Russia. Tajik Prime Minister Qohir Rasoulzoda raised this issue during a meeting of the Tajik-Russian Intergovernmental Commission for Trade and Economic Cooperation held in Dushanbe on October 4. He stated that Tajikistan was concerned about the situation with inspections in Russia during activities aimed at “regulating the migration field.” Co-chair of the Intergovernmental Commission for Trade and Economic Cooperation, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Marat Khusnullin, in turn, stated that Russia and Tajikistan need to create a working group to control migration. Tajik Foreign Minister Sirojiddin Muhriddin also voiced concern over the restrictions on Tajik citizens during a meeting of the CIS Council of Foreign Ministers on October 7. He emphasized that such measures contradict the principles of humanity and mutual assistance on which the CIS is based. • "description": "TOKYO, March 28, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- TIER IV, the pioneering force behind the world's first open-source software for autonomous driving, is proud to announce Level 4 certification for an autonomous bus service in Komatsu, Ishikawa Prefecture. This certification applies to the entire route from Komatsu Station to Komatsu Airport and a designated section of the return route, marking a significant milestone achieved through collaboration with local authorities and service operators. This certification, granted under the Road Transport Vehicle Act, classifies the bus as a Level 4 autonomous vehicle. Upon receiving a permit under the Road Traffic Act, the bus will be authorized to operate autonomously within predefined routes, detecting surrounding vehicles and pedestrians while adhering to designated environmental conditions. In August 2022, TIER IV joined forces with Komatsu City, BOLDLY, Aisan Technology, and Sompo Japan in a strategic partnership to establish a year-round autonomous bus service. This service was designed to enhance connectivity between Komatsu Station and Komatsu Airport, aligning with the launch of the Hokuriku Shinkansen Komatsu Station. Since 2023, the initiative has leveraged TIER IV's Minibus, powered by Autoware*, the open-source software for autonomous driving championed by TIER IV. The project also incorporated a comprehensive risk assessment conducted by Sompo Japan, high-precision 3D mapping technology developed by Aisan Technology, and remote monitoring and fleet management supported by BOLDLY. Following extensive testing and operator training, the paid year-round autonomous bus service began in March 2024. By the end of February 2025, the service had transported over 18,000 passengers, demonstrating the growing demand and feasibility of autonomous public transit solutions. Looking ahead, TIER IV will continue to drive research, development, and proof of concept tests to accelerate the widespread rollout of autonomous driving. *Autoware is a registered trademark of the Autoware Foundation. About TIER IV TIER IV stands at the forefront of deep tech innovation, pioneering Autoware, the world's first open-source software for autonomous driving. • "content": "A Falcon 9 rocket, operated by SpaceX, successfully launched from Vandenberg Space Force Base in California at 2:49 a.m. EDT on March 21. The rocket is tasked with delivering the classified NROL-57 mission for the U.S. National Reconnaissance Office (NRO). This launch signifies a significant achievement in rocket reusability, as the same booster had previously been used to launch NASA's SPHEREx space telescope and PUNCH solar probes just over nine days prior. The former record for the shortest interval between flights of a Falcon 9 first stage was 14 days. According to the NRO, NROL-57 is part of the agency's \"proliferated architecture\" initiative, which aims to deploy multiple smaller satellites to enhance resilience and operational capabilities. While specific details about the payloads remain classified, there are indications that they may include \"Starshield\" satellites—adapted versions of SpaceX's Starlink satellites designed for government reconnaissance. Approximately 7.5 minutes after liftoff, the Falcon 9's first stage successfully landed back at Vandenberg Space Force Base, marking this as the booster’s fourth flight. This achievement underscores SpaceX's progress in the rapid refurbishment and reuse of rocket components. NROL-57 is the eighth launch under this strategy, with all prior missions also executed using Falcon 9 rockets from Vandenberg. The expanding constellation of these satellites aims to enhance operational flexibility and reliability in space-based intelligence operations. No official information has been released regarding the orbit or deployment details of the NROL-57 payloads. Also Read: Is Apple secretly collecting your photos? The truth behind the claims",

Media Football Awards. • "description": "These newly leaked renders depict the Galaxy S25 Edge in three color variants and imply the use of a Titanium frame.",
      • "content": "The Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge is anticipated to be officially unveiled next month. Although the company has not confirmed a specific launch date, speculation suggests an announcement may occur in the second week of April. In the lead-up to this event, purported marketing images of the forthcoming Galaxy S25 series smartphone have emerged online. These newly leaked renders depict the Galaxy S25 Edge in three color variants and imply the use of a Titanium frame. It is expected to be equipped with a Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy SoC and 12GB of RAM. The device is projected to have a slim profile measuring 5.84mm in thickness. Alleged promotional visuals shared by WinFuture showcase the Galaxy S25 Edge in black, blue, and silver hues, which are likely to be named Titanium jet black, Titanium icy blue, and Titanium silver. These color options appear to mirror the finishes of the Galaxy S25 Ultra. The inclusion of \"Titanium\" in the color names suggests that Samsung may have incorporated a Titanium frame in this new model. The company is also expected to provide exclusive color options through its online store. The front design of the Galaxy S25 Edge appears to be similar to that of the Galaxy S25, Galaxy S25+, and Galaxy S25 Ultra. On the rear, it features a dual-camera arrangement accompanied by an LED flash, with the cameras vertically aligned within a pill-shaped module. Since the Galaxy S25 Edge was hinted at during the Unpacked Event in January, numerous leaks regarding the device have surfaced. Like the current Galaxy S25 models, the upcoming phone is likely to operate on the Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy SoC, include 12GB of RAM, and house a 3,900mAh battery with 25W wired charging support. The dual rear camera system is expected to consist of a 200-megapixel primary sensor and a 12-megapixel secondary sensor, with the device rumored to maintain a thickness of 5.84mm. • "description": "Following this, a design patent has surfaced, showcasing another innovative foldable concept from the South Korean tech giant.",
      • "content": "Samsung recently unveiled the Flex Gaming Console, a concept for a foldable gaming device, at the Mobile World Congress (MWC 2025) earlier this month. Following this, a design patent has surfaced, showcasing another innovative foldable concept from the South Korean tech giant. This new design features a handheld gaming console with a display that can be expanded to create a significantly larger screen, and the device is depicted in multiple configurations. It also includes controls that closely resemble those found on popular gaming controllers. The design patent, as reported by 91Mobiles, contains several illustrations of a handheld gaming console equipped with a foldable display. Initially, it appears to adopt a clamshell-style design, with controls positioned on both the left and right sides of the device. The drawings also depict the two panels closed together, with the hinge (Fig. 3) accompanied by shoulder buttons. Additional illustrations reveal the right and left sides of the device, suggesting a sleek profile. A top view showcases two thumbsticks, directional buttons, and what seem to be shoulder buttons located at the top. Subsequent images display the gaming device with the display fully opened flat, free of any creases. A top-down perspective in figure illustrates the display in its fully extended state. Another figure highlights the lower section of the device, which does not appear to contain any display elements. The final illustration presents the device with its display angled open, indicating the intended usage of the handheld. However, it remains uncertain whether the larger screen will display the same game or if the lower half could function as a secondary display for additional information. • "description": "The two had dated privately for \"about seven or eight years\".",
      • "content": "As of Friday night (Mar 28), Desmond Ng will be a married man. The actor, 37, will be exchanging vows with his partner of several years in front of family and friends, who will gather for an intimate ballroom dinner. Ng revealed that he’d been dating host Kanny Theng, who has also dabbled in acting, for “maybe about seven or eight years, or more – I can’t remember!” Theng, 37, who was last seen on screen in the movie Money No Enough 3, can’t remember either. “We didn’t take note of the date,” she laughed, adding that they’re not sentimental about that kind of thing. The couple met about 10 years ago at dinner with mutual friends. Was it love at first sight? “Kind of,” they both chimed in unison. Still, it was a while before they actually got together. “We are very different people,” said Ng, who stars in the currently-airing Emerald Hill. “I’m more laid-back; I think a lot; I’m very logical. She’s more about feelings and moving fast and not thinking about consequences. She wants everything ‘now’. I think we complement each other. She moves me forward; I hold her back a little. That makes me feel like she’s a person I can live with for the rest of my life.” Although Ng says he didn’t go to great lengths to keep the relationship a secret, “We didn’t go public” either, he acknowledged. “When reporters asked if I had a girlfriend, I always said yes, but never mentioned who she was, because I didn’t know how to explain that to them as she isn’t really in the industry – she mostly does hosting.” Ng popped the question in January last year while on holiday with friends at Yangmingshan in Taiwan. “I was thinking, if I want to propose overseas, why not find a place you can’t find in Singapore?” he recounted. Because “she has a very accurate sixth sense”, he told her it was their group of about 20 friends who wanted to go on a casual holiday. “I’m not a very romantic person. So, it’s pretty easy for me to surprise her,” he said. At a scenic spot in the national park, he went down on one knee. But, he didn’t propose with a ring. “She doesn’t wear rings. So, I proposed with a (Cartier) watch that she’d been telling me she liked for a while,” Ng said. “I thought it would be good to surprise her with something she wants.” Up until the proposal, one of his friends had been entrusted with picking up the watch and keeping it safe. “So, he was very stressed over the whole trip, because he had to bring it everywhere in a backpack,” Ng chuckled. Another friend acted as the couple’s photographer, capturing the moment for memory. Having proposed on screen more times than he can remember, “I thought it would be easy. But the actual feeling is very different,” he laughed. “I was very nervous about whether she would find out. And, my friends are all normal people – they don’t act. They overacted! I was like, ‘No, bro. Don’t do that!’” The only non-fairytale part of the proposal was that “she was a little pissed off because she didn’t dress up. I did hint to her before we left the hotel, ‘Do you want to wear something different?’ And, in the car up, she was sleeping, so she thought she looked unglamorous.” Still, the couple’s relationship is characterised by such informality and easy rapport. It has been “not totally peaceful for seven or eight years”, Ng quipped, and “she doesn’t always agree with what I do. But this chemistry moves us forward together”. Citing fellow actors Nick Teo and wife Hong Ling, he said: “They are a very lovely couple and I think they quite envy us when we tease each other in front of them.” He added: “We always thought we didn’t have to get married because we are like a married couple, in a way. But we came to the conclusion that maybe marriage will provoke a new kind of chemistry in our relationship.” The wedding dinner will be “very intimate as we previously didn’t even want to have a wedding dinner”, Ng said, but decided to honour their parents’ wishes. Fellow musicians from his band Al4ha will play the music, and “If I have the time, maybe I will do a few songs”. Ng said Theng will likely move into his home, a flat he renovated two years ago “partially” according to “her design”, and that they’d like to have kids at some point. “We’re not young any more, so let’s see how it goes,” he quipped. One thing he’s working on in a quest to be a top-tier husband is taking better photos of his wife. “She always thinks my photos of her are bad,” he lamented, citing that as the reason he hasn’t put her on his social media grid. “I have gone on Xiaohongshu to try to learn some tips.” That’s an A for effort, at least.",

      • "description": "European nations have grown increasingly alarmed that the region may no longer be able to rely on its transatlantic ally as it has in the past, and are seeking new partnerships.",
      • "content": "BRUSSELS: European leaders have vowed to strengthen their defence capabilities amid growing uncertainty about long-term security commitments by the United States. In the aftermath of World War II, West European nations, alongside US and Canada, created the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) for collective security against the then-Soviet Union. Article 5, a cornerstone of the treaty, states that an attack on one NATO country is deemed an attack on all, and members will protect each other. The US has since provided the lion’s share of military backing to the alliance, but recent moves by the White House has cast doubts on Washington’s continued willingness to come to Europe’s defence. TRUMP AND EU US President Donald Trump returned to office in January with a blaze of tariff threats and demands that allies pull their weight. During his first presidency, Trump threatened to withdraw from NATO. This time, he has made repeated demands for European nations to i ncrease military spending above the current NATO target of 2 per cent of their annual gross domestic product. In a policy shift from his predecessor Joe Biden, he also made direct contact with Russia President Vladimir Putin over the war in Ukraine, and walked back on military support to Kyiv . “That security partnership across the Atlantic has been so important, so integral, to allow Europe to... be an economic power and a cultural power,” said Ian Lesser, a distinguished fellow at public policy think tank German Marshall Fund of the United States. “Now Europe is confronted with a world that has not only become much more dangerous but a world in which its principal ally has become less predictable.” The European Union earlier this month unveiled an US$840 billion plan to rearm the continent, saying it wants to take on more responsibility for its own security. The proposal will allow the bloc to temporarily ease its fiscal rules so member states can spend more for defence. With the Trump administration touting an America First agenda, the EU said it is now the United Nations' most reliable partner, and is committed to the UN's principles of multilateralism. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said that despite geopolitical shifts shaking alliances, the EU offers stability and predictability in the current climate. “In a moment of increased global confrontation and competition, we must strengthen our partnership further,” said von der Leyen as the bloc held a summit in South Africa earlier this month to strengthen its diplomatic footing. “We must work closely together, to ensure the future is built on our shared belief in cooperation and human dignity, in stable relations, (and together) we stay the course.” TARIFF WAR Currently, 30 per cent of global trade is conducted between the EU and US, making it the largest bilateral trading relationship in the world. But Trump’s tariff blitz has unsettled markets and put Europe’s policymakers on edge. On Thursday (Mar 27), the American president announced levies of up to 25 per cent on all automotive imports. The US is the EU’s largest market for cars, accounting for almost a quarter of its total automobile exports. Earlier this month, Trump slapped sweeping 25 per cent tariffs on all steel and aluminum imports , extending the duties to hundreds of downstream products made from the metals. The EU has responded to Washington’s duties with threats of countermeasures. The European Commission, the executive arm of the EU, has warned that such tit-for-tat tariffs lead to lose-lose outcomes and is calling on Washington to change course to prevent ties from souring further. CHARM OFFENSIVE FOR NEW TRADE PARTNERS In face of a tariff war, European leaders have in recent months been on a charm offensive to seek new business suitors. “Forging these partnerships is essential,” said von der Leyen. “Because we have learned the very hard way that sourcing the products we need from partners we trust, is the best way to avoid over-dependencies or to avoid vulnerabilities and blackmail,” she added. The EU signed a trade deal with the four nations from South America's Mercosur bloc Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay last December, following years of negotiations. It advanced talks with India in February in an effort to secure a free trade agreement by the end of this year. The bloc also announced a US$5 billion investment deal with South Africa and a digital trade agreement with South Korea. “It’s very clear that this diversification is not about replacing established good markets such as the US or China with other markets,” said Pauline Bastidon, director of trade and economic affairs at Spirits Europe. “It’s about trying to get even more diversity, more options for companies but this is something that is not going to help in the short- or mid-term.” Experts have warned that trade deals could take over a decade to truly start bearing fruit. The American Chamber of Commerce to the EU estimates a trade conflict with the US could cost businesses US$9.5 trillion a year. EUROPE STAYS COURSE ON CLIMATE ACTION With the US pulling out of a number of major global initiatives including the Paris climate agreement, there is pressure on Europe to step up. “I think European leaders have taken stock of geopolitical shifts and the opening of a new era. They are kind of redefining how competitiveness, security and resilience looks like in this new context,” said Manon Dufour, the executive director of climate change think tank Third Generation Environmentalism. “Climate and decarbonisation are still very central to this. What we need now is firmer commitment and action.” The EU has promised such action, pledging to stay the course even if the US does not. The bloc's Clean Industrial Deal could unlock over US$100 billion to support clean technology and EU-made clean manufacturing, as well as help member states transition to low-carbon economies. Von der Leyen has also stated the bloc's willingness to join forces on global warming - not just with like-minded partners, but with any country the EU shares interests with. However, analysts said uncertainty lingers over whether, in the face of US retreat, Brussels can play a leading role.",

• "content": "Why are wired earbuds still a thing in a world gone largely wireless? It’s because they still have plenty to offer in 2025. For a start, you never have to worry about charging them – they epitomise plug and play practicality. Wired earphones also eliminate latency. This occurs, for instance, when you see a character’s lips move on screen but hear their dialogue a fraction of a second later. While Bluetooth audio codecs have improved tremendously, even the best ones like aptX Lossless Audio don’t have enough bandwidth to transmit CD-quality audio files. If you’re a stickler for audio quality, a good pair of wired earphones are a better bet. We’ve put together a helpful list of wired earbuds that meet your needs – from backup audio sidekicks to high-end in-ear monitors. JBL Endurance Run 2 (S$29.90; Usual Price: S$37.00; 19% off) These durable, sweatproof earbuds offer decent, bass-heavy sound quality that are great for workouts.
