      • "content": "The Sudanese military has announced that it has recaptured Khartoum International Airport from the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militants, effectively clearing the area of their presence. According to Nabil Abdullah, spokesperson for the Sudanese army, the airport was fully reclaimed on Wednesday, March 26, marking a significant development in the ongoing conflict in Sudan.Abdullah confirmed to AFP that the RSF militants had been cleared from the airport, with the remnants of the forces fleeing across the White Nile at the Jabal Awlia Bridge. This tactical retreat has been seen as a key moment in the struggle between Sudan’s military and the RSF, which has heavily impacted the country since the onset of the conflict in April 2023.The recapture of Khartoum airport comes just one day after Sudanese military forces were accused of carrying out one of the deadliest airstrikes of the war. The attack, which targeted a market in the West Darfur region, resulted in the deaths of at least 270 people, as confirmed by eyewitnesses. This incident has escalated tensions and drawn international concern.Sudan’s army had previously announced the retaking of the presidential palace in Khartoum, which had been under RSF control since the start of the conflict. The palace, symbolic of Sudan’s leadership, was seized by the RSF forces led by Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, also known as Hemedi, following the outbreak of hostilities in April 2023.The RSF, a paramilitary force led by Hemedi, played a significant role in the early stages of the conflict, taking control of key sites in Khartoum, including the presidential palace and other strategic areas. The group’s actions have caused widespread instability and exacerbated the humanitarian crisis in Sudan.Reports indicated that Hemedi commands a formidable force of approximately 100,000 troops, who have been engaged in a brutal struggle against the Sudanese military for over a year. The ongoing war between the RSF and the army has left the country in turmoil, with millions of civilians caught in the crossfire. The situation in Sudan remains critical, with both sides of the conflict suffering significant losses. The international community has been closely monitoring developments, urging for peace and an end to the violence that has devastated Sudan’s infrastructure and population. The recapture of Khartoum International Airport is a significant victory for the Sudanese military. However, the battle is far from over, as the RSF continues to hold significant territory in Sudan. The humanitarian toll on the population remains devastating, and the future of Sudan remains uncertain as both sides prepare for further confrontations. As the conflict in Sudan intensifies, both sides are struggling for control of key territories, with the military’s recent gains in Khartoum providing a temporary shift in power. However, the prolonged fighting continues to take a heavy toll on civilians, and the international community must take urgent action to address the growing humanitarian crisis. The post Sudanese Army recaptures Khartoum Airport from RSF appeared first on Khaama Press.",

      • "content": "BEIJING: China rebuffed on Thursday (Mar 27) a suggestion from United States President Donald Trump that he might offer to reduce tariffs on the country to get Beijing's approval for the sale of popular social media platform TikTok. Trump said this month the US was in talks with four groups interested in acquiring TikTok , with the app facing an uncertain future in the country. A US law has ordered TikTok to divest from its Chinese owner ByteDance or be banned in the US, enacted over concerns that Beijing could exploit the video-sharing platform to spy on Americans or covertly influence US public opinion. The law took effect on Jan 19, a day before Trump's inauguration, but he quickly announced a delay that has allowed it to continue to operate. That delay is set to expire on Apr 5. Trump told reporters at the White House on Wednesday that he could give China \"a little reduction in tariffs or something to get it done\". \"We're going to have a form of a deal,\" Trump said, adding that if it was not done in time, he would extend the deadline. \"China is going to have to play a role in that, possibly in the form of an approval and I think they'll do that.\" Beijing swiftly rebuffed Trump's suggestion, with its foreign ministry saying that it has \"repeatedly stated our position\" on TikTok. \"The Chinese side's stance against imposing additional tariffs is also consistent and clear,\" foreign ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun said. \"PEOPLE'S BID FOR TIKTOK\" Trump similarly attempted to ban TikTok in the US on national security concerns during his first stint in the White House. TikTok temporarily shut down in the US in January and disappeared from app stores as the deadline for the law approached, to the dismay of millions of users. Trump suspended its implementation for two-and-a-half months after beginning his second term on Jan 20, seeking a solution with Beijing. TikTok subsequently restored service in the US and returned to the Apple and Google app stores in February. Artificial intelligence (AI) startup Perplexity recently expressed its interest in buying TikTok . Perplexity laid out in a blog post a vision for integrating its AI-powered internet search capabilities with the popular video-snippet sharing app. \"Combining Perplexity's answer engine with TikTok's extensive video library would allow us to build the best search experience in the world,\" the San Francisco-based firm said. Although TikTok does not appear overly motivated regarding the sale of the app, potential buyers include an initiative called \"The People's Bid for TikTok\", launched by real estate and sports tycoon Frank McCourt's Project Liberty initiative. Others in the running are Microsoft, Oracle and a group that includes Internet personality MrBeast, whose real name is Jimmy Donaldson. \"Any acquisition by a consortium of investors could in effect keep ByteDance in control of the algorithm, while any acquisition by a competitor would likely create a monopoly in the short form video and information space,\" Perplexity said in its post. \"All of society benefits when content feeds are liberated from the manipulations of foreign governments and globalist monopolists.\"",

      • "content": "SINGAPORE: A Singaporean man who allegedly invited a foreign religious speaker with terror links to preach at a Tuas migrant worker dormitory was charged on Thursday (Mar 27). Among other charges, Abdus Sattar, 51, is said to have organised a public assembly at Lantana Lodge without a police permit, according to the Singapore Police Force (SPF) and Ministry of Manpower (MOM) in a joint news release. Court documents state that the gathering was organised on Aug 9, 2024 to promote the Islamic faith. The preacher invited was Bangladeshi national Amir Hamza, who was previously arrested by his own government for his purported terror links, terrorism-related activities and inciting militancy. In August last year, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) said in a news release that authorities had received police reports that Amir preached to a group of Bangladeshi migrant workers in Singapore on Aug 9. Investigations into Amir, the organiser of the event he preached at and other people involved were ongoing at the time. According to the ministry, Amir's sermon had propagated \"extremist and segregationist teachings that were dangerous and detrimental to Singapore’s communal harmony\". THE CASE Sattar invited Amir and another Bangladeshi national, Ullah Mohammed Neamat, to the gathering on Aug 9, said SPF and MOM on Thursday. According to court documents, Sattar also facilitated Amir's travel, provided the logistical equipment needed for the gathering and conducted promotional outreach efforts about Amir's preaching. However, he did not apply for a Miscellaneous Work Pass for Amir to deliver a talk related to religion. Amir allegedly preached to the migrant workers at the gathering while Ullah was accused of performing songs to the crowd despite Sattar not having a public entertainment licence, said SPF and MOM. Sattar was a director at the dormitory's operator, SBM Electrical & Automation, when he committed the alleged offences. Other charges he faces are for providing public entertainment without a public entertainment licence, and for abetting a foreigner to conduct activities as a religious speaker in Singapore without a work pass. If convicted of organising a public assembly without a permit, Sattar could face a fine of up to S$5,000 (US$3,700). For providing public entertainment without a licence, he could face a fine of up to S$20,000 if convicted. If found guilty of the offence he faces under the Employment of Foreign Manpower Act, he may face a fine of up to S$20,000, up to two years’ jail, or both. SBM Electrical & Automation was also charged for allowing a large number of foreign workers who were not residents to enter the dormitory's premises to attend the event, without maintaining proper records of their entering and leaving. Dormitory operators must, for at least one year, keep within the dormitory premises an up-to-date record of people who enter the premises if they are neither dormitory residents nor persons employed by the dormitory. Dormitory operators who contravene licence conditions may face a fine of up to S$50,000, up to one year’ jail, or both, for each contravention.",

      • "content": "One of the four Palestinian directors of the Oscar-winning documentary ‘No Other Land’, Hamdan Ballal, was arrested by the Israeli army after masked settlers attacked his house. Eyewitnesses claim, Ballal was surrounded and attacked by a group of 15 armed settlers in Susya in the Masafer Yatta area south of Hebron. It is claimed that the group of soldiers and other settlers dressed in military uniform chased Hamdan and handed him over to the military. They reportedly destroyed his car with stones, slashed the tyres, and destroyed the windows and windshields of his vehicle. In the latest development of the incident, Ballal was freed from Israeli detainment a day after enduring the attack. Now, co-director of ‘No Other Land,’ Yuval Abraham, has called out the US Academy for declining support to Ballal, who won an Oscar for the Best Documentary Feature at the 97th Academy Awards, held earlier this month. After being handcuffed all night and beaten in a military base, Hamdan Ballal is now free and is about to go home to his family.— Yuval Abraham יובל אברהם (@yuval_abraham) March 25, 2025 “Sadly, the US Academy, which awarded us an Oscar three weeks ago, declined to publicly support Hamdan Ballal while he was beaten and tortured by Israeli soldiers and settlers. The European Academy voiced support, as did countless other award groups and festivals. Several US Academy members—especially in the documentary branch—pushed for a statement, but it was ultimately refused. We were told that because other Palestinians were beaten up in the settler attack, it could be considered unrelated to the film, so they felt no need to respond,” Abraham wrote on X. He continued, “In other words, while Hamdan was clearly targeted for making No Other Land (he recalled soldiers joking about the Oscar as they tortured him), he was also targeted for being Palestinian—like countless others every day who are disregarded. This, it seems, gave the Academy an excuse to remain silent when a filmmaker they honored, living under Israeli occupation, needed them the most.” Sadly, the US Academy, which awarded us an Oscar three weeks ago, declined to publicly support Hamdan Ballal while he was beaten and tortured by Israeli soldiers and settlers. The European Academy voiced support, as did countless other award groups and festivals. Several US...— Yuval Abraham יובל אברהם (@yuval_abraham) March 26, 2025 Abraham concluded, “It’s not too late to change this stance. Even now, issuing a statement condemning the attack on Hamdan and the Masafer Yatta community would send a meaningful message and serve as a deterrent for the future.” Reportedly, this is not the first time that the directors and crew members of ‘No Other Land’ have been attacked by settlers.",

      • "description": "After missing the start of the season through injury, Tan has found game time hard to come by. But she is determined to keep improving.",
      • "content": "SINGAPORE: From early setbacks to fierce competition for minutes, the road to top-flight football has not been straightforward for Singapore's Danelle Tan. After signing for the A-League Women side Brisbane Roar last year, the 20-year-old missed the start of the campaign with a knee injury that sidelined her for almost two months. Since returning to fitness, she has made just three substitute appearances and is still searching for her first goal. But the fire continues to burn strong within Tan, who said she is even more motivated to keep improving. \"It's been a bit of a whirlwind,\" she told reporters at a media roundtable on Thursday (Mar 27). \"I guess it's also because this season here (has) no winter break, so all the games come thick and fast. \"(I was) going into a good preseason, and then getting that injury - not an ideal timing for the injury ... sitting out for seven, eight games, and then struggling to find my feet again back in the squad.\" Tan, who was the first female Singaporean footballer to play in a European league, signed for Brisbane Roar last year. \"Everybody wants to play and so it's always a bit disappointing when you're not getting the game minutes you want,\" said Tan, who is now fully fit. \"This is the first time I've played in a season and the season has been cut short by the injury. \"It's been a very different season. For me, it's just more motivation that I need to keep improving. I need to keep training more and biding my time and taking my opportunities as they come.\" 'TECHNICALLY GIFTED' PLAYER A trailblazer in local women's football, Tan previously played for Germany's Borussia Dortmund in the fifth-division Landesliga, scoring 17 goals in 27 appearances during her one season there. Tan joined Dortmund in July 2023, becoming the club's first female signing from Asia. \"Every season presents its own challenges. When in Germany, I had to get used to the cold ... and learn a new language. Here, it's slightly different, maybe more challenging on the football field,\" she said. \"I wouldn't say it is the most challenging (season), I would just say it's a different kind of challenge. I embrace these challenges, I think it's where you grow the most as a player and a person as well.\" Tan is Singapore's youngest international goalscorer, having netted in her Lionesses debut as a 14-year-old at the 2019 ASEAN Football Federation Women's Championship. The goal also made her the fifth-youngest scorer in a senior women's international match. But the step up to Brisbane Roar has been significant. Tan's teammates include Australian internationals Tameka Yallop and Sharn Freier, as well as Japanese defender Momo Hayashi. Being able to train and play alongside world-class players has been a \"really good experience\" so far, she said. And to do that at Brisbane's top level facilities has also been a \"huge step\", she added. \"That's been something that's really helpful in my development - that you get a proper taste of what professional football looks and feels like,\" said Tan, who made her Roar debut in early January. \"At the end of the day, it's now become my job and that is something that has sort of changed ... The dynamics of how I view football is no longer just something I do as a passion but it's now what I do as a job. That's been a huge difference this season.\" Roar head coach Alex Smith described Tan as a \"wonderfully technically gifted\" player whose touch and finishing ability is \"probably one of the best\" on the team. \"The initial injury was very unfortunate with the timing. (I) felt like she came in preseason and was looking pretty good,\" he told reporters. \"The team was doing quite well when she returned, and she's just kind of found it hard to make her way back into the side.\" At the same time, Smith stressed that the Singaporean will need to adjust to the pace of the league. \"The speed of play is definitely faster than maybe what Danelle anticipated, or certainly what she experienced at Dortmund. So that's one thing that I've kind of flagged with her, that she needs to work on,\" he said. \"Once Danelle sort of develops that real speed and awareness when to play one-touch (football), when to play two-touch, she can thrive in a league like this. But until that happens, it's going to be tough for her. \"But she's doing everything she can to improve on on that side of things and we're trying to help her as much as we physically can as well.\" The Roar are headed to Singapore for a five-day tour in early April, and will play in an exhibition match against the best of the local Women's Premier League at Bishan Stadium. \"Growing up I would have loved to ... be able to watch a professional women's team come and play back home in Singapore,\" said Tan. \"I hope that it will be time where we inspire other girls and just be a very exciting opportunity to grow the game in Singapore, and also maybe make some new friends for Brisbane Roar back home.\" The Roar are currently sixth out of 12 teams in the league, and remain in the running to make the Final Series where the top six teams vie for the title. While it is unclear what the future holds for Tan in Australia - her deal with the Roar is till the end of this season - she stressed that she remains \"really focused\" on the rest of this season. \"I think she definitely has a future in a league like this,\" said Smith. He added that her time in the league will do Tan a \"world of good\" for her development and improvement. \"Even though she might not see it right now or might not be enjoying it fully at the moment, I do think this is going to stand her in good stead for the rest of her career.\"",

      • "description": "A High Court judge accepted that the accused's adjustment disorder had a major contributory link to his offences, but nevertheless gave it limited weight in sentencing.",
      • "content": "SINGAPORE: A married father of three who tried to murder his former lover's new boyfriend was sentenced to 13 years and eight months' jail by the High Court on Thursday (Mar 27), more than what both the prosecution and defence had sought. Armed with a knife, Ong Eng Siew, 64, had slashed and stabbed Mr Ku Teck Eng, then 52, the new boyfriend of his former lover, at the void deck of a Choa Chu Kang housing block on the night of Jun 21, 2021. The assault was a culmination of his increasingly aggressive behaviour towards his former lover, a woman then aged 42, whom he had abused and harassed in the lead-up to the incident. Delivering her remarks on the case, Justice Mavis Chionh said that the harm caused by Ong's attempt at murder was \"severe and significant\", with the injuries \"extremely serious\", even if Mr Ku did not appear to suffer from long-term injuries. In her decision, the judge also addressed a major contention between the defence and the prosecution - whether Ong's adjustment disorder contributed to his actions and to what extent. In an earlier hearing, Ong pleaded guilty to one charge each of attempted murder and voluntarily causing hurt, with three charges - two for hurting his former lover, and one for obstructing justice by throwing away the knife - considered for sentencing. While he admitted to the offences, Ong, represented by lawyers Eugene Thuraisingam and Ng Yuan Siang contended that his adjustment disorder was a major contributing factor. The case then entered an ancillary hearing where both sides produced psychiatrists who testified as to the impact of Ong's mental condition. The defence's psychiatrist cited stressors in Ong's life at the time, including the death of his brother in April 2021, the end of his relationship with his lover, and financial difficulties from his employer not paying his salary. The prosecution disagreed, taking the position that Ong's actions were driven by jealousy, anger and a lack of inhibition caused by alcohol consumption. In her judgment, Justice Chionh said she preferred the defence psychiatrist's evidence, finding his analysis to be \"more persuasive and cogent\". She accepted that there was a major contributory link between Ong's mental disorder and the offences. Even so, she gave limited mitigating weight to Ong's mental condition as he still retained an understanding of his actions and was able to weigh its consequences. She found that Ong's adjustment disorder was temporary and situational, and was a maladaptive response to genuine stressors in his life. His condition could not be a \"licence\" to harm others, the judge said. She also considered the aggravating factors in Ong's case, including how his assault had been \"vicious and unrelenting\" even after Mr Ku had fallen down, and his intoxication. In mitigation, Justice Chionh factored in Ong's show of remorse, through his voluntary compensation of S$2,000 (US$1,500) to Mr Ku, and the absence of violent behaviour in his past history. At the close of her judgment, Justice Chionh said that the prosecution and the defence's proposed sentences would be \"wholly inadequate\" in reflecting the \"overall criminality\" of the accused's conduct. The prosecution had called for a jail term of between 10 years, eight weeks and 12 years, 10 weeks. The defence urged the court to jail their client for between seven and eight years. HOW IT HAPPENED Ong was in a relationship with his lover from November 2019, even though he had been married with children. The woman only found out about his marriage in September 2020 and confronted him over it. But Ong lied that he was separated from his wife and would be ending his marriage. In January 2021, he began drinking heavily and gambling his salary away. The lovers began quarrelling frequently over his behaviour. She ended the relationship on Apr 25, 2021. Subsequently, the woman began dating Mr Ku, but Ong continued to harass her through text messages and calls. He threatened her with bodily harm, including pushing her off a building and stabbing her. On one occasion, on Jun 1, 2021, Ong slammed her head against a van after finding out that she was in a new relationship. The woman managed to flee and made a police report, but the harassment did not stop. On Jun 12, 2021, Ong drank beer for hours before heading to the void deck of his former lover's home at about 8.30pm, armed with a knife and more beer. When the woman and Mr Ku arrived at the void deck at about 9.25pm, Ong confronted the latter. He then took the knife from a plastic bag and approached Mr Ku with the weapon held behind his back. Shouting \"I will make sure you die\", Ong attacked Mr Ku. He punched Mr Ku who backed away and tripped over a kerb and fell backwards. While Mr Ku was on his back, Ong stabbed the left side of his chest and slashed the left side of his stomach. When the woman tried to intervene, Ong pushed her over and punched her shoulder. Mr Ku fled to a nearby provision shop for help, while Ong fled after residents in a neighbouring block shouted at him. He threw the knife in a drain and then sent voice recordings to his former lover, asking her and Mr Ku not to call the police. Mr Ku, who was conveyed to Ng Teng Fong General Hospital, underwent surgery on the same day to repair the damage to the left ventricle of his heart and his small bowel region. He had a second surgery days later. The Health Sciences Authority stated that the stab wound on the left side of Mr Ku's chest, which resulted in a laceration on his left ventricle, would have been fatal but for emergency medical intervention because of blood building up in the sac around the heart. The stab wound to Mr Ku’s abdomen caused part of the bowel to protrude from his abdomen. The tears to his bowel could have been infected, resulting in Mr Ku's death if not for surgical intervention.",

      • "content": "LONDON : Yuki Tsunoda will race for Red Bull from his home Japanese Formula One Grand Prix next week with struggling New Zealander Liam Lawson demoted to sister team Racing Bulls in a straight swap. Lawson, preferred to the more experienced Tsunoda when former champions Red Bull dropped Mexican Sergio Perez at the end of last year, has yet to score as teammate of four times world champion Max Verstappen. Tsunoda started the season strongly and has shrugged off an early career reputation for being excitable and erratic. The 24-year-old has been itching for the chance to show what he can do at a top team. \"It has been difficult to see Liam struggle with the RB21 at the first two races and as a result we have collectively taken the decision to make an early switch,\" Red Bull team boss Christian Horner said in a statement on Thursday. \"We came into the 2025 season with two ambitions; to retain the world drivers' championship and to reclaim the world constructors' title and this is a purely sporting decision. \"We acknowledge there is a lot of work to be done with the RB21 and Yuki's experience will prove highly beneficial in helping to develop the current car,\" added the Briton. \"We welcome him to the team and are looking forward to seeing him behind the wheel of the RB21.\" Tsunoda has been backed through his career by Honda, Red Bull's engine partner until the end of this season and also owners of the Suzuka circuit that hosts the Japanese Grand Prix on April 6. Honda are switching to Aston Martin in 2026, however, and Tsunoda's future beyond this year has looked uncertain with last year's teammate Lawson promoted over him and the Japanese repeatedly snubbed. Horner had questioned the sense of keeping Tsunoda on after 2025 at Racing Bulls given that the team's main purpose is to prepare young drivers for the step up, with others in the pipeline. \"You can't have a driver in the support team for five years. You can't always be the bridesmaid. You've either got to let them go at that point or look at something different,\" Horner told reporters in December. \"I think he's very determined. He knows that things change very quickly,\" Horner added then. \"Who would have thought nine months ago that we'd be sitting here talking about Liam Lawson being our driver for 2025?\" Thursday's decision, which will be seen as brutal after just two races, added Lawson to a list of young drivers who have been found wanting and been shipped out after going up alongside Verstappen. Alex Albon, now at Williams, and Pierre Gasly, racing for Alpine, are two such drivers who have rebuilt their reputations after leaving Red Bull. Horner said after last weekend's Chinese Grand Prix that Red Bull would support Lawson as best they could and he reiterated that sentiment. \"We have a duty of care to protect and develop Liam,\" he said. \"And together we see that after such a difficult start it makes sense to act quickly so Liam can gain experience, as he continues his F1 career with... Racing Bulls, an environment and a team he knows very well.\" Lawson will join French rookie Isack Hadjar at the Italy-based team.",

      • "content": "KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim on Thursday (Mar 27) hailed the planned construction of a mosque in Kuala Lumpur - named after his government's “Malaysia Madani” slogan - as a “victory” after a decade of delay, amid an ongoing controversy involving the relocation of a Hindu temple. To make way for the mosque, the 130-year-old Dewi Sri Pathrakaliamman temple - which currently occupies part of a piece of land owned by a private firm - will be relocated some 50m away on a site that will be gazetted for permanent religious use. The proposed relocation has sparked backlash from some Hindu advocacy groups, as well as some segments of the Malay-Muslim community who argued that the temple was built illegally. “This victory, as I remind my fellow Muslims, is not borne of sheer arrogance but our willingness to display wisdom and strength of Islam,” Anwar was quoted as saying by Malay Mail at the groundbreaking ceremony for the Madani Mosque on Thursday. He added that addressing the issue in a civilised, ethical and peaceful manner reflects the Madani - or Civil Malaysia - values championed by his administration, as reported by the New Straits Times (NST). “These are Madani values - principles of compassion and kindness, not just for Muslims but for a multiracial society as a whole.” Anwar also met with the temple committee members following the groundbreaking ceremony after parties involved in the dispute reached an “amicable resolution” two days ago. “We are glad things worked out in the end,” temple committee chairman K Barthiban told Malay Mail. “He said we should all come together as a family by living harmoniously and that the government looks after the interest of all,” said Barthiban, referring to the prime minister. Local news outlets reported heavy police presence at the site of the groundbreaking ceremony at Jalan Masjid India on Thursday, with more than 100 police officers stationed as early as 8am across multiple areas. According to Astro Awani, Anwar’s presence at the ceremony, despite opposition from some quarters which he acknowledged, aligned with his earlier statement on the need to expand religious facilities to accommodate the growing Muslim population in the area. “The prayer space in mosques around the area is overcrowded. There is a need for a new place,” he said earlier on Tuesday, as quoted by The Star, in defending his decision to proceed with the groundbreaking ceremony. Anwar had also previously called on all parties not to politicise the relocation of the temple. LONG-DRAWN DISPUTE The Jalan Masjid India area is popular with tourists and home to several department stores. The area, named after the 140-year-old Tamim Muslim Mosque that anchors it, has historical importance for the Indian Muslim community in the capital city. The Dewi Sri Pathrakaliamman temple - which was allegedly built without a land deed - sat on government land before it was sold to textile giant Jakel Trading Sdn Bhd in 2014. According to the company’s head of legal and communications Aiman Dazuki, the firm signed a land purchase agreement in 2012 to fulfil the aspirations of its late founder Mohamed Jakel Ahmad to endow the land with a mosque for the Muslim community. The temple, situated at Munsyi Abdullah Street, is located across the road from Jakel Mall - a large shopping centre owned by the textile company. “The temple is old and not legally approved, but to maintain harmony, the company (Jakel) has agreed to provide some assistance and Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) has identified a replacement site,” Anwar was previously quoted as saying by NST on Mar 21. On Tuesday, Federal Territories Minister Zaliha Mustafa said that the temple would be moved 50m away to a new 4,000 sq ft site, matching its current size, and agreed upon by its committee. It will also be gazetted for permanent religious use, according to Digital Minister Gobind Singh. Jakel Trading had bought the plot of land from DBKL in 2014, allegedly without the temple management being informed, according to Malay Mail. The temple, which currently sits on a 12,000 sq ft plot, or approximately the size of four tennis courts, occupies about one-third of the land while the rest of which functions as a carpark. In 2012, the temple applied to convert the land title to that of land reserve for a non-Muslim place of worship, but this application had failed, according to Member of Parliament for Batu P Prabakaran, as reported by Free Malaysia Today (FMT). Prabakaran is a member of Anwar’s Parti Keadilan Rakyat. When the land was sold to the textile giant, it was informed by DBKL that the temple was only there temporarily, according to the firm’s chief financial officer Syed Nasrul Fahmi Syed Al-Qadri. At a press conference last week, Syed Nasrul shared that this was stated in the land sale agreement and clarified that Jakel would not have proceeded with acquiring the land if that was not the case. While Jakel has been in talks with the temple committee to relocate the place of worship for more than a decade, the textile company assured that their relationship has been good. And in 2021, the company received permission to begin constructing a mosque at the site, but delayed the process “out of respect” for the process of relocating the temple. Jakel also had offered to pay for the relocation costs. The company also said that it was not possible to build a mosque next to the temple as the land was not large enough to fit two houses of worship, FMT reported. “UNACCEPTABLE” TO MOVE A SIGNIFICANT HERITAGE SITE The Malaysia Hindu Sangam (MHS), which represents the country’s two million Hindu population, had said that maintaining the temple at its current location, alongside the proposed mosque, would be the best arrangement for all parties. “Such an arrangement would demonstrate to the world Malaysia’s commitment to coexistence amidst diversity,” it said in a statement on Monday, as quoted by Malay Mail. The Hindu advisory group also refuted allegations that many Hindu temples in Malaysia have been operating illegally, proposing a special body to address land issues linked to temples across Malaysia. MHS said that it is prepared to lead the initiative with the government to safeguard the rights and heritage of the Hindu community, Malay Mail reported. According to MHS, many Hindu temples were built with the necessary approval during the British colonial era but land sales and urban development after independence had rendered the status of some temples ambiguous. South China Morning Post reported that a legislature debate in Selangor - the state with the largest Malaysian Indian population - revealed that at least 773 temples were operating without formal approval or clear land ownership. Lawyers for Liberty executive director Zaid Malek had also questioned the rush for the groundbreaking ceremony to be held. “There is an easy solution, there is no need for the temple to be demolished, there is a site next to the temple that is large enough to build a mosque. If the site is not enough, there is even space nearby for expansion,” he said at a press conference, in a video posted by Malaysiakini on Mar 22. Penang's former deputy chief minister Palanisamy Ramasamy said that it is “unacceptable” for such a significant heritage site to be forcibly moved for a new development. “The issue is not just about relocation - it is about historical preservation, religious rights and responsible governance,” he was quoted as saying by FMT on Mar 20. In a statement, the former Democratic Action Party member and current chairman of the United for the Rights of Malaysians Party had questioned why DBKL had approved the proposal to construct a mosque on the same site where the temple is located. “How did DBKL approve a mosque project on the very land where the temple stands?,” he added. “This is not just about one temple - it is about setting a precedent for how heritage and religious rights are treated in Malaysia. Hindu temples are not placed on wheels to be moved at the whims of the powerful.” In a Facebook post on Tuesday, well-known Muslim preacher Firdaus Wong claimed that the temple not only received a 4,000 sq ft plot of land for free, but also RM2 million (US$451,000) in “compensation”. Zaliha - the federal territories minister - refuted the statement.",

Much to everyone's shock, Ji-seok revealed a bunch of messages allegedly exchanged between Sae-ron and Kim Soo-hyun in June 2016. He alleged that the two were in a romantic relationship when the late actress was still a minor. In one conversation, Sae-ron sent a kiss emoji to Soo-hyun, to which he responded, \"Do it for real later.\" The ' Queen of Tears ' actor then asked her, \"Do you miss me or not?\" and she replied playfully, \"You? What do you think - do I miss you or not?\" In another message, Soo-hyun wrote that he wanted to hug her to sleep. \"When can I hold you and fall asleep? I think I'd be able to sleep really well then,\" to which she replied, \"Yeah, I'll let you do that.\" The actor then began asking Sae-ron how long it would take for her to let him be physically intimate with her. \"You think a year is too long? Then in 6 months?\" asked Soo-hyun, to which she replied, \"I'll do it when I want to. • "content": "The World Food Program warns that Afghanistan’s child malnutrition programs may cease without immediate funding, impacting millions of vulnerable children. The World Food Program (WFP) has warned that without urgent funding, its child malnutrition prevention programs in Afghanistan, Yemen, and Syria may be suspended within months. The organization needs $1.4 billion to carry out its operations in 56 countries in 2025.On Wednesday, March 26, the United Nations-affiliated agency issued this warning, stressing that a lack of funds could halt its global efforts to combat child malnutrition in these three countries.Cindy McCain, the executive director of WFP, stated in a release ahead of a Paris meeting where governments and charities will discuss global hunger and malnutrition: “If we do not act, we will condemn millions of children to a lifetime of suffering.”The WFP has been facing severe financial challenges, particularly following the suspension of U.S. assistance. Last year, the U.S. provided $4.5 billion of the organization’s $9.8 billion budget, a crucial part of its funding. The WFP provides food aid and cash assistance to those facing hunger due to agricultural shortages, conflict, and climate change. The organization has also stated that to address malnutrition among 30 million mothers and children across 56 countries in 2025, it will need $1.4 billion, with the situation worsening due to ongoing global conflicts. The executive director of WFP has warned that its operations in Afghanistan may be halted by May this year if the necessary funds are not secured. Additionally, the organization is scaling down its programs in several other countries as well. The growing threat of malnutrition in countries like Afghanistan, Yemen, and Syria is a direct result of ongoing conflicts and climate change. The WFP’s continued work is vital to combat this crisis, but without adequate financial support, its ability to help millions of vulnerable people is at risk. The international community must step up and ensure the necessary funding to prevent further suffering. The post WFP warns of potential suspension of malnutrition programs in Afghanistan due to funding shortage appeared first on Khaama Press.",

      • "content": "KABUL (Pajhwok): In his message ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr, the supreme leader of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA) underlined the need for unity among Afghans, desiring good relations with the world based on brotherhood. Sheikh Haibatullah Akhundzada urged the world to respect Afghanistan’s values and not to hinder the Islamic Emirate’s efforts for stability, security and development. He also highlighted the responsibility of educational institutions to align their curricula with the Shariah and to provide proper education for youth. Haibatullah Akhundzada asked the people not to heed propaganda from hostile groups that aimed to demoralise them or spread anxiety about poverty and economic challenges. Zabihullah Mujahid, chief spokesman for the interim government, published the supreme leader’s message on his X account. Haibatullah Akhundzada said: “Afghans have endured many years of conflict. Thank Allah, now we have a good opportunity for unity and harmony. Let us fully seize this opportunity and strengthen our unity, which is the key to our success and dignity.” He added Afghanistan was peaceful, and its people were living in better security than at any other time. He explained the IEA had tasked all courts with applying Shariah according to the Hanafi jurisprudence. Based on this, courts are obligated to make decisions in line with Shariah and implement the laws of Allah. According to him, the Ministry of Vice and Virtue (MoVV), in addition to addressing complaints, is working to prevent all forms of corruption. As a result, the level of immorality has decreased. The IEA supreme leader identified preventing corruption in society as one of the major objectives of the Islamic system. He also stated it was the responsibility of all scholars to fully cooperate on correcting the beliefs of youth and preventing immorality. IEA’s decrees, laws and particularly the law of MoVV should be explained to the people and they should be encouraged to follow them. The leader reminded educational institutions of their duty to focus on promoting beliefs and practices across all fields. They should align their curricula with Shariah and focus on the proper education of youth. He added the IEA, besides promoting religious teachings, has worked — and continues to work — to rebuild the country and strengthen the economy according to the Shariah. He said: “The people should not trust propaganda from malicious groups and intelligence networks trying to demoralise them or spread anxiety about poverty and economic challenges. With the help of Allah, the IEA is doing all in its power to improve your lives.” He said the IEA sought strong and positive relations with the Islamic world based on Islamic brotherhood. He concluded: “We ask all parties to respect the beliefs and values of the Afghan people, refrain from interfering in our internal affairs and not to be an obstacle to our stability, security and progress.” Additionally, in his message, the leader condemned Israeli attacks on Palestinians and urged Islamic countries to support the Palestinian people. sa/mud",

Businessman Andrew Lim Tatt Keong, the owner and driving force behind the privately owned Macrovalue, said the S$125 million (US$93 million) deal with Singapore-listed DFI Retail Group, makes his company Malaysia’s third largest supermarket operator, after AEON and Lotus (formerly Tesco). It is also in line with his group’s strategy to achieve economies of scale in a fiercely competitive environment. “The grand plan for any food and grocery business is to aggregate until you are of critical size to take advantage of better bulk discounts and back-end deal suppliers. Just like NTUC FairPrice and the Central Group in Thailand with 50 per cent of the market share in (the) primary food and grocery business ... we hope to be that party in Malaysia,’’ Lim said. Lim also told CNA that he is not discounting opening new Cold Storage and Giant operations in Singapore in the months ahead, but stressed that as the new owner, he had no plans for a radical overhaul. “Number one, it will be business as usual. Number two, no layoffs and number three, Lim Boon Cheong, has agreed to lead the team onwards,” he said, referring to DFI Retail Group’s managing director for Food Singapore. He also added that the Yuu loyalty programme and in-house Meadows products at Cold Storage will continue too. Stressing that his Macrovalue retail group’s foray into Singapore was for the long-term, Lim said: “We are committed to the supermarket industry, and we are not here to slice and dice and make a corporate deal.” SUMMER BAND COUNTRIES The 69-year-old Lim said his expansion strategy in an industry wracked by disruptions posed by e-commerce stores is predicated on distinct behavioural patterns in countries with long winters compared with locations that enjoy summer all year round, such as California, Florida, Malaysia and Singapore. Citing studies by Oxford University, urbane Lim, a lawyer-turned-businessman, noted that research has shown that e-commerce has taken off in countries with long winter seasons, such as North America, China, Japan and South Korea because home deliveries for groceries and other essentials are favoured. “But in summer band countries, where it is summer all year round, people want to go out ... so there is a need for the lifestyle centres and brick-and-mortar supermarkets,” he said. He added that Macrovalue will also stress superior customer service as it goes head on with rivals such as NTUC FairPrice and Sheng Siong in Singapore. Lim added that the group’s focus will be on brand-building because of the complex mix of rational and emotional factors that come into play in the business, which he discovered after leading a management buyout in 2002 of the Sogo departmental operations in the capital Kuala Lumpur from its Japanese owners. While the rational concerns are about pricing and the quality of goods, the emotional side of the equation is about the closeness to a particular outlet. Lim noted that his Sogo stores are popular with lower and middle-income segments, particularly from the country’s dominant ethnic Muslim Malay community. “It is like Hari Raya (Eid) buying, you don’t complete it unless you visit Sogo,” he said as he pointed to the noisy rumble of customers doing their last-minute shopping ahead of Eid, which falls early next week. NO STRANGERS DFI Retail, a retail operator in the stable of companies controlled by conglomerate Jardine Matheson, and Macrovalue are no strangers. In 2023, DFI sold its Malaysia Cold Storage and Giant operations to Marcrovalue, allowing the Malaysian concern to broaden its interest in retail and the supermarket sector beyond the Sogo retail outlets in the country. This week’s acquisition will give Macrovalue control of 48 Cold Storage stores in Singapore, including those under CS Fresh, CS Gold and the Jason Deli brands as well as 41 Giant stores and two distribution centres in Singapore. The Giant chain of supermarkets has been shrinking in Singapore. Eleven of its outlets – including supermarkets, hypermarkets and smaller express stores – closed in 2024. The deal marks DFI's exit from the traditional grocery space in Singapore, as the group shifts its focus to its health and convenience arms – Guardian and 7-Eleven. Combined with its Malaysian operations, the supermarket and retail operations under the Macrovalue group will now amount to roughly RM5 billion (US$1.1 billion) annually and give the group a cross-Causeway reach, the businessman said. HOMECOMING Lim cut his teeth in the retail and supermarket business in the mid-1980s when he began serving as legal advisor to the owners of GAMA Group, which owns a department store in Penang. It is widely considered to be the country’s first full-fledged retail complex and supermarket. “After handling all the back-end suppliers’ contracts and also tenancy agreements, I learned about the business,” said Lim, who in 2000 bought into GAMA in a management buyout before carrying out a similar corporate exercise to take control of Sogo two years later. Lim noted that the retail sector had long fascinated him because of the ever-changing demands and tastes of the consumers. “It is always different about what the consumer wants or is attracted to and keeping up with that is a challenge that I like,” he said, adding that banks generally favour financing food and grocery enterprises because it is a staple and a cash business. But Macrovalue’s foray into Singapore isn’t all about business, Lim acknowledged. “My mother is from Singapore, so this is like a homecoming for me,” he said. But family has not and will not figure in the way he runs his business, said Lim, adding that not a single family member is involved as he prefers to leave it to first-rate professionals instead. “I think that is the way to go, because you need to glean from the general population the best people to actually run any business.”",

      • "description": "Lim Jian Qiang suspected the woman, whom he had never met, was a scammer but ignored his misgivings and continued to move funds for her from his bank account.",
      • "content": "SINGAPORE: After entering into a relationship with a woman he had met online, who claimed to be based in Dubai, a man agreed to receive monies in his bank account and transfer them on her behalf. When the police warned him to stop moving the funds for her, he ignored them and continued to do so, in hopes that she would come to Singapore and marry him. Singaporean Lim Jian Qiang, 34, was sentenced to four weeks’ jail on Thursday (Mar 27), after pleading guilty to one count of receiving stolen property with another charge taken into consideration for his sentencing. WHAT HAPPENED The court heard that Lim had befriended an unknown online persona called “Latifa” sometime in 2018 and started communicating with her. He considered her to be his fiancee and intended to marry her. To date, Lim has never met Latifa. In 2020, Latifa started to ask Lim to receive money with his bank account on her behalf and to transfer it onward following her instructions, which he agreed to do. Lim was later investigated by the police in August 2020 for receiving monies which were the subject of police reports. The complainants in those reports complained that they were each victim of a tenancy-related scam. During this investigation, he admitted that he had received these monies on Latifa’s behalf and then used the funds to buy cryptocurrency and transferred them as directed by her. According to court documents, he admitted – during that investigation – that he did not know the source of the funds, and was worried that Latifa might be engaged in illegal activities but agreed to help her with the transfers so that she would come to Singapore and marry him. The police warned Lim that by receiving and transferring monies on behalf of Latifa without a valid licence, he might be committing an offence and told him not to continue providing such services for her. Despite this, he continued to receive money on Latifa’s behalf using his DBS account, receiving a total of S$177,270.86 from outside Singapore into his account between Nov 7, 2020 and Feb 10, 2021. He then used these funds either to purchase and transfer bitcoins or transferred them to various bank accounts under Latifa’s directions. The court heard that, throughout this time, Lim had suspected that Latifa was scamming people and that she was using him for money laundering. In his messages with her, he had even confronted her about his suspicions. However, as she promised him that she would marry him if he continued to “help” her move money, he continued doing so. Details of his crimes came to light on Feb 5, 2021, after an accountant of Singapore company Turbo Solutions lodged a police report, complaining that its client, Swan Shipping had fallen victim to an email impersonation scam. The Philippines-based company had received fraudulent emails - purportedly from Turbo Solutions - that provided it with fraudulent wire transfer instructions. Swan Shipping complied with the fraudulent instructions, resulting in a total of S$9,075 being transferred to Lim’s bank account on Jan 11, 2021. While Latifa told Lim that the monies belonged to her, he had reason to believe the property to be stolen property, according to court documents. Nonetheless, he agreed to receive the funds on her behalf in his DBS account, as he wanted to marry her. Following her instructions, he transferred a total of S$9,000 to a bank account with the remaining S$75 similarly dissipated afterwards. Shortly after receiving the police report from Turbo Solutions on Feb 5, 2021, the Commercial Affairs Department seized the balance sum in the DBS account, which amounted to S$79.38. This has since been returned to Lim. To date, the 34-year-old has not made any restitution, and the police have also not been able to identify and trace Latifa. On Thursday, Deputy Public Prosecutor Louis Ngia sought a sentence of between one and two months’ jail, given the level of Lim's culpability and harm caused by his offence. “The accused not only had strong reasons to believe that he would be facilitating the movement of criminal proceeds on Latifa’s behalf, he had suspected so. He suspected Latifa to be a scammer,” said Mr Ngia in his submission. “However, we balance the above with the fact that there is no evidence of him enjoying personal benefits for his involvement. He committed the offence because he was promised marriage by the online persona ‘Latifa’ in return for his ‘help’.” Mr Ngia added that the offence was premeditated as he had been earlier cautioned by the police not to continue helping Latifa move monies and had real suspicions that she was a scammer but continued to receive and transfer them on her behalf. “The accused had thus committed the offence with his eyes wide open, and the offence is far from a moment of folly,” he said. For receiving stolen property, Lim could have been jailed for up to five years and/or fined.",

      • "content": "MELBOURNE : The New South Wales Waratahs will look to shrug off their dire record in New Zealand and become the third Australian team to win there this season when they kick off the seventh round of Super Rugby Pacific against the Wellington Hurricanes on Friday. Bolstered by former Melbourne Rebels players after the collapse of Australia's fifth team, the Sydney-based Waratahs have motored to a 4-1 start under new coach Dan McKellar, doubling their win count from a miserable 2024 season. However, they lost their only match away from home this season and have yet to be tested in New Zealand, where they have lost their last seven. A breakthrough at Wellington Regional Stadium would be a watershed moment for the Waratahs and silence any doubts about Australia's competitiveness in the provincial competition. The ACT Brumbies and Queensland Reds have already shown the Waratahs how to win \"across the ditch\" by prevailing over the Auckland Blues and Otago Highlanders respectively. McKellar's team will need to break a seven-match losing streak to the eighth-placed Hurricanes a week after ending a run of 13 defeats to the Brumbies. \"The key for us is consistency - backing up a strong performance against a team that most people didn't think we'd beat and doing it again,\" said McKellar. \"If we bring high effort, physicality, and intensity, we back ourselves against any team.\" Fourth in the table, the Waratahs will be reinforced by marquee recruit Joseph Suaalii, who slots straight into the starting 15 after being sidelined since round one with a toe injury. The rugby league convert made a winning Super Rugby debut at fullback against the Highlanders but will play his second match in the midfield behind captain Joey Walton. Max Jorgensen, who has starred for the Waratahs in Suaalii's absence, will start at fullback, shifting over from the wing to replace the rested Andrew Kellaway. While the Waratahs hunt respect in New Zealand, the Crusaders (4-1) brought plenty home to Christchurch after thrashing the defending champion Blues at Eden Park. Rob Penney's team are second and can leapfrog the Waikato Chiefs with victory over the struggling Moana Pasifika on Saturday. The Chiefs (5-1), along with the ninth-placed Blues and 10th-placed Fijian Drua, have a bye week. Moana Pasifika will hope captain Ardie Savea's return from injury can inspire them to a second win and lift them off the bottom of the table. Depending on the Crusaders result, the third-placed Queensland Reds (4-1) can also take top spot if they win their home match against sixth-placed Western Force on Saturday. The Reds, who beat the Force 28-24 away in round three, are missing their first-choice back row with Harry Wilson and Fraser McReight rested, and Liam Wright injured. But Les Kiss's team are in good spirits after destroying the Highlanders' scrum in their first win in Dunedin in 12 years. \"We are very happy with how our scrum is going,\" said Kiss, who has rewarded props Alex Hodgman and Massimo de Lutiis with a promotion. \"Both Alex and 'Mass' had a great impact off the bench against the Highlanders and get their chance to start against the Force.\" The fifth-placed Brumbies (3-3) will look to rebound from their defeat by the Waratahs with a home win over Jamie Joseph's inconsistent Highlanders (2-3) in the late match on Friday.",

This underscores the rigorous selection process and the intense competition in the field. Thus, the recognition from CVPR is a significant milestone for Soul, adding to its growing list of accolades, including the 2024 ACM International Conference on Multimedia (ACM MM) and the top position at the Multimodal Emotion Recognition Challenge (MER24). The accepted paper, titled \"Teller: Real-Time Streaming Audio-Driven Portrait Animation with Autoregressive Motion Generation,\" presents a novel autoregressive framework designed to enhance the efficiency of generating \"talking-head\" animations. This research aims to meet the growing demand for AI models that can deliver human-like interactions in real time. What sets the \"Teller\" framework apart is its unique balance between performance and efficiency. Soul's model utilizes an autoregressive motion generation framework that maintains optimal efficiency without sacrificing the fluidity and authenticity of natural facial and body movements. The paper highlights two key components of this technology: Facial Motion Latent Generation (FMLG): By leveraging large-scale training data, FMLG enhances the synchronization between audio and visual cues, resulting in more fluid and natural facial expressions in response to speech inputs. Efficient Temporal Module (ETM): Using a diffusion-based approach, the model accurately captures body dynamics, adding realism to the movements of facial and body muscles, as well as accessories. During tests, Soul's engineers found that this dual-module system enables AI-generated avatars to exhibit expressions and gestures that feel human in real time. This level of realism significantly enhances user experience in virtual interactions. Since its inception in 2016, Soul has consistently invested in technological resources to gain an AI-driven edge in social networking. The company's journey began with the self-developed Lingxi Engine, which facilitated user connections based on mutual interests. This was followed by rapid advancements in speech and text-based interactions, as well as 3D virtual human modeling. By 2020, Soul was already leveraging AI-generated content (AIGC) and focusing on intelligent dialogue systems and voice synthesis. The launch of Soul's proprietary AI model, Soul X, in 2023 marked a major leap forward. This homegrown model introduced features such as multilingual voice calls, speech synthesis, and AI-generated music to the platform. The recent breakthrough with the \"Teller\" framework is another step toward Soul's goal of integrating speech, vision, and natural language processing (NLP) to create AI-powered digital entities that can interact seamlessly with users in real time. The ultimate aim is to provide not just functional but also emotionally fulfilling companionship. Soul believes that artificial intelligence should go beyond merely facilitating conversations. • "content": "JAKARTA : Indonesian officials will seek to address concerns among investors and other key economic players about an economic downturn in Southeast Asia's biggest economy following a stock market selloff and currency slump, an official said on Thursday. President Prabowo Subianto will meet with investors and others following the long Eid-al-Fitr holiday, which begins on Friday, aiming to correct misperceptions about the government's policies, said Raden Pardede, a special aide to Indonesia's senior economic minister Airlangga Hartarto. \"The government will improve and intensify communication with economic players,\" Raden told Reuters. The rupiah has fallen to its weakest since 1998, following a slide of as much as 7.1 per cent in the main stock index last week, pressured by concerns over government policy, the country's fiscal position and its growth prospects. Analysts mentioned poor government communication on fiscal policies and strategies to achieve growth as one of the selloff triggers, in addition to pressure on the market from negative global sentiment. Key messages will include assurances that the government will not break the legal fiscal deficit ceiling at 3 per cent of GDP and there will be no political interference in the newly set up sovereign wealth fund Danantara Indonesia, Raden said. \"We are also preparing ways to deregulate the real sector, mainly to encourage the manufacturing industry, which creates jobs and is export-oriented,\" he said referring to a policy that seeks to make available 20 trillion rupiah ($1.21 billion) in credit for labour-intensive industries. Bank Indonesia said it is ready to continue its intervention to stabilise the currency, but said economic indicators show the country is fundamentally strong and the situation is \"totally different\" from 1998 financial crisis. On Thursday, the rupiah strengthened as much as 0.24 per cent against the dollar. It has rebounded since Wednesday with BI citing positive sentiment in stocks, bonds and FX markets. The current level at around 16,500 is still near 1998's level of 16,800. After stocks tumbled last week, the financial regulator eased buyback processes, and the market has since recovered. \"Markets will keep an eye on the mid-year budget update to gauge if the shortfall in revenues has narrowed or further spending rationalisation is required to keep within the 3 per cent of GDP deficit threshold,\" DBS Bank economist Radhika Rao said in an e-mail. The mid-year budget update is usually handed down in early July. Rao said a long holiday will provide a break to the market, which will be shut from March 28 to April 7. ($1 = 16,545.0000 rupiah)",

      • "description": "Apple is encountering difficulties in the design of the upcoming Apple Watch SE model.",
      • "content": "Apple is encountering difficulties in the design of the upcoming Apple Watch SE model, as reported by Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman. The company is reportedly developing a new version of the Apple Watch SE, which is anticipated to feature a plastic casing. However, Apple's design team has expressed dissatisfaction with the appearance of this wearable, while other staff members are exploring options to reduce production costs for the chassis compared to the existing model. The launch of new smartwatches is not expected until September, coinciding with the release of the next generation of iPhones. In his latest Power On newsletter, Gurman notes that the design team is not pleased with the rumored next-generation Apple Watch SE, which is set to have a plastic body. Previous iterations of the Apple Watch SE have utilized an aluminum frame, similar to the pricier Series models. Gurman also highlights that Apple's operations team is facing a separate challenge: manufacturing a plastic case for the Apple Watch SE is significantly more costly than using aluminum, as seen in the current second-generation model. It is important to mention that Apple has not yet revealed any intentions to launch an updated version of the Apple Watch SE (2nd Generation), which was last refreshed in 2022. A plastic 'SE' model could potentially boost sales by appealing to the budget-conscious market, provided that production costs remain lower than those of the current model. Additionally, a new health tracking feature anticipated for the higher-end Apple Watch models is blood pressure monitoring. Over recent years, there have been indications that Apple has made strides in developing sensors capable of accurately measuring blood pressure. However, Gurman reports that the company continues to face challenges in testing this blood pressure monitoring capability.",

      • "description": "A total of 998 newborns across 143 species were welcomed at Bird Paradise, Night Safari, River Wonders and Singapore Zoo.",
      • "content": "SINGAPORE: Nearly 1,000 animals were born or hatched at four of Singapore's wildlife parks last year, providing an added boost for species under threat. A total of 998 newborns from 143 species were collectively welcomed at Bird Paradise, Night Safari, River Wonders and the Singapore Zoo, said Mandai Wildlife Group on Thursday (Mar 27). This is higher than the 970 babies across 128 species recorded in 2023, which the group previously said was the highest tally of births and hatchings in the past decade. “With each new arrival, we reinforce our commitment to maintaining sustainable populations in our parks and contributing to long-term conservation efforts,” said Dr Cheng Wen-Haur, Deputy CEO and Chief Life Sciences Officer of Mandai Wildlife Group. The group said in a media release that 34 of the species recorded in 2024 are listed as threatened under the International Union for the Conservation of Nature's (IUCN) Red List of Threatened Species. This includes critically endangered ones like the woylie and vulnerable species such as the giant anteater and West Indian manatee. Of the 143 species successfully bred last year, 23 are part of internationally managed breeding programs like the European Association of Zoos and Aquaria’s Ex-situ Programme. These initiatives aim to maintain genetically healthy and sustainable populations under human care while also supporting conservation efforts in the wild, according to the release. BIRD PARADISE Bird Paradise welcomed its first penguin hatchlings, with three gentoo penguin chicks. Two of them were from first-time parents, Riki and Peach. Their chicks were hatched two days apart, according to the Mandai Wildlife Reserve website, which noted that this marked an important milestone, indicating that the gentoos are thriving in their purpose-built cold saltwater habitat. The Ocean Network Express Penguin Cove at Bird Paradise is home to four species of penguins - gentoo, Humboldt, king and northern rockhopper. \"All three chicks have begun to sport adult plumage and can be seen waddling around their habitat, with their parents following closely behind,\" said Mandai Wildlife Group. Blue-winged leafbirds, Madagascar teals and Meller’s ducks also marked another first for the wildlife parks, with Nyasa lovebird and green honeycreeper hatchlings making an appearance for the first time in over seven years. Further adding to the population of threatened species were six Victoria crowned pigeon chicks. Other additions were numerous hatchlings of high conservation significance, including the golden parakeet and the yellow mantled chattering lory. \"To ensure their survival, eggs that were neglected or abandoned in the aviaries were safely retrieved and incubated at the breeding and research centre,\" said the group. Newly hatched chicks are then hand-raised and gradually exposed to varying temperature and humidity conditions, ultimately preparing them for their release into larger aviary settings. RIVER WONDERS A giant anteater pup and a West Indian manatee calf were born under the ex-situ programme. The calf was bottle-fed by aquarists and tended to round-the-clock as no nursing behaviour was observed from its mother, said the group. Other successes were the endangered Lake Titicaca frog, which was bred within the same year it was first exhibited, and t he blue discus, a tropical fish native to South America, with over 80 joining the school. SINGAPORE ZOO Singapore Zoo welcomed five slender-tailed meerkat pups, the first births of the species since 2019. The twins can be found at the Great Rift Valley of Ethiopia while the triplets are housed in Wild Africa. Adding to the list is a Linne’s two-toed sloth, three oriental small-clawed otters and two emperor tamarins. The group also highlighted the arrival of a proboscis monkey , as its species is classified as endangered due to habitat loss from deforestation. Two Goeldi’s monkeys, the first in nine years, along with four ring-tailed lemurs further grew the zoo's primate family. In reptile and amphibian breeding efforts, Singapore Zoo bred the endangered golden mantella and black-legged poison frog. The animal care team fine-tuned water conditions and simulated seasonal changes to improve success, with 31 golden mantella hatchlings recorded - the highest in three years. Additionally, efforts were made to establish an assurance colony for the Chrisangi leaf insect, a species native to Singapore that was only discovered in 2017, to safeguard against extinction. “It can reproduce parthenogenetically, meaning that females can lay eggs without mating, producing clones of themselves,” said the group. NIGHT SAFARI Three Malayan sambar deer, five barasinghas, and a hog deer joined the Night Safari and have been introduced to the free-ranging habitats along the Safari Tram Adventure route. Three Turkmenian markhor kids were also born, the species’ first offspring in five years. Over at the Tasmanian Devil Trail, keepers welcomed a woylie. This is the fifth joey of the critically endangered species since 2021.",

      • "content": "Nothing has officially unveiled the second edition of its Community Edition Project for the Phone 3a. The UK-based brand will implement this initiative in four distinct phases, inviting participants to submit their ideas starting today. The project will gather input from the Nothing community on hardware design, accessory design, wallpaper design, and marketing strategies to create a unique version of the Nothing Phone 3a. Each phase's winners will have the opportunity to collaborate closely with the Nothing team to realize their concepts. This initiative was first launched in March of the previous year. In a recent press release, Nothing announced the Phone 3a Community Edition Project. Interested individuals can submit their design ideas for the new version of the Phone 3a from March 26 to April 23, with winners receiving the opportunity to work directly with the Nothing team. Similar to last year, the Community Edition Project will unfold in four stages, beginning with hardware design, followed by accessory design, software design, and marketing campaigns. The hardware design phase allows participants to partner with Nothing's team to develop their concepts for the Phone 3a, while the accessory design phase focuses on creating a unique collectible or accessory to accompany the Phone 3a Community Edition. The software design phase encompasses wallpaper creation and widgets, while the marketing campaign stage will incorporate community-generated ideas for promoting the special edition phone. Winners will be awarded a cash prize of GBP 1,000. Nothing initiated its Community Edition Project in March 2024 and launched the Nothing Phone 2a Plus Community Edition smartphone in October of the previous year, marking the brand's first collaborative effort with the Nothing Community. This handset features a glow-in-the-dark design, with only 1,000 units made available for purchase.",

      • "content": "Vivo has officially begun to promote its forthcoming T4 5G smartphone in India, branding it as the successor to last year's T3 5G model. The company emphasizes that the T4 will feature the \"largest battery ever\" found in an Indian smartphone, with the intention of disrupting the mid-range market through enhanced specifications. Leaks suggest that the Vivo T4 5G may come equipped with a 7300mAh battery and support for 90W fast charging. The device is anticipated to have a 6.77-inch Full HD+ AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate. Its design is expected to include a central punch-hole cutout and a slightly curved screen, all within a sleek 7.89mm chassis. Rumors indicate that the phone will be powered by the Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 chipset, offering configurations of up to 12GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage. The camera setup may feature a 50MP Sony IMX882 primary sensor with optical image stabilization, a 2MP depth sensor, and a 32MP front-facing camera. The T4 5G will be available through Flipkart, Vivo's online store, and various offline retailers. Previously, tipster Yogesh Brar indicated that the T4 5G is set to launch in India in April, with three configurations: 8GB + 128GB, 8GB + 256GB, and 12GB + 256GB. Additional features may include an in-display fingerprint scanner, an IR blaster, and a slightly thicker profile of 8.1mm.",

      • "description": "The Galaxy S25 Ultra closely resembles its predecessor, featuring rounded corners, an upgraded chip, and an ultrawide lens.",
      • "content": "The Galaxy S26 Ultra is set to debut early next year, yet it has already garnered significant attention. Recent rumors suggest that the device will forgo one of its telephoto cameras in favor of a larger battery. The Galaxy S25 Ultra closely resembles its predecessor, featuring rounded corners, an upgraded chip, and an ultrawide lens. However, the S26 Ultra is expected to differentiate itself from previous S Ultra flagship models in several key areas. According to tipster @Vhsss_God, the current prototype of the S26 Ultra is equipped with a 200MP 4x telephoto lens, alongside a 200MP main camera and a 50MP ultrawide lens. This setup may seem familiar, as Samsung previously utilized a 48MP 4x telephoto in the Galaxy S20 Ultra before transitioning to a dual-telephoto configuration. The increased resolution of the telephoto lens in the S26 Ultra will allow for greater cropping capabilities without significant loss of detail compared to the S20 Ultra. Additionally, advancements in AI technology are expected to enhance detail retention, further distinguishing the S26 Ultra from its predecessor. It will be intriguing to compare the Galaxy S26 Ultra with this year's model, which features a 50MP 5X telephoto lens and AI upscaling capabilities. Currently, there is limited information regarding the 200MP telephoto lens or other sensors beyond their resolution. Given that Samsung employs the same 1/1.3′′ 200MP sensor for the telephoto, the extended focal length may also result in a more pronounced camera bump. • "description": "Apple has officially announced the release date for its iPhone 16 series in Indonesia.",
      • "content": "Apple has officially announced the release date for its iPhone 16 series in Indonesia, following the country's decision to lift a sales ban after Apple's substantial investment exceeding $300 million. The iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, iPhone 16 Pro Max, and iPhone 16e are set to be available in the Indonesian market starting April 11. This announcement confirms that the iPhone 16 series has successfully completed the Indonesian telecommunications equipment certification, which was the final step in the approval process. Additionally, the iPhone 16 models have received the local component content (TKDN) certification from the Indonesian Ministry of Industry, achieving a compliance rate of 40%, surpassing the minimum requirement of 35%. The sales of the iPhone 16 were initially halted in October due to Apple's failure to meet the 40% domestic content requirement for smartphones. In addition to its financial investment, Apple has pledged to train local talent in research and development, enabling Indonesians to create software and design their own products. This commitment addresses a significant request from the government for Apple to establish R&D facilities within the country. The agreement also outlines plans for a manufacturing plant on Batam Island, which will produce AirTags, Apple's tracking accessories. This facility will be managed by Apple supplier Luxshare Precision Industry and is anticipated to contribute to 20% of global AirTag production. Furthermore, another manufacturing site is planned for Bandung, approximately three hours from Jakarta, to produce various other accessories. Part of the investment will also support the establishment of Apple academies aimed at equipping Indonesian students with essential tech skills, including coding. • "content": "KABUL (Pajhwok): US President Donald Trump intends to terminate America’s financial support for Gavi, the organisation that has helped purchase critical vaccines for children in poorer countries. Reuters reported, citing a document from the US Agency for International Development (USAID), Washington also planned to scale back efforts to combat malaria. The document, which was shared with Congress earlier this week, outlines drastic budget reductions. If approved by Congress, the cuts will result in the termination of 5,341 programmes worth $76 billion, while 898 programmes worth $78 billion will continue. A senior USAID official warned dismantling the programmes could lead to unnecessary deaths. Gavi officials have stressed the US funding, amounting to approximately $300 million annually, was critical to the organisation’s operations. Gavi CEO of Sania Nishtar told Reuters: “If we don’t get US support, that translates into 1.2 million deaths” over the next five years, among children who will be unprotected against deadly diseases like measles and diphtheria.” The proposed funding cuts have raised serious concerns among global health advocates, who warn of devastating consequences for children’s health in the world’s poorest nations. Gavi collaborates with governments, international organisations and the private sector at expanding immunisation efforts, aiming to promote equitable vaccine access and reduce the spread of preventable diseases worldwide. kk/mud",
