Since her last sold-out Australia concert last year, her recent show on May 2, marked her second stop of her first The Secret of Us Tour . \"The last time we played here, the room wasn’t this big,\" she told the crowd. \"I've been dying to come back ever since.\" Appearing on the stage barefoot, Abrams belted out Risk and after performing the ending note she breathlessly said, \"Holy S---, Sydney!\" \"Thank you for filling my life with so much joy,\" she said, hand on heart, as she met with a thunderous applaud. Prior to the concert, the venue looked like a giant sleep-over where, according to Rolling Stone, 21,000 fans camped overnight in the rain for a front-row spot at Qudos Bank Arena. Earlier during her Auckland, New Zealand concert, she gave a surprise performance of Lorde’s hit song Liability . Abrams’ The Secret of Us Tour continues with two more nights at Sydney’s Qudos Bank Arena, before hitting Brisbane on May 6th and 7th, Melbourne on May 9th and11th, Adelaide on May 13th, and Perth on May 16th and17th. • "content": "SWAT: In a major administrative decision, the Saidu Group of Teaching Hospitals (SGTH) has terminated the services of 21 contractual employees, appointed during the caretaker government on February 24, 2024. The move comes in compliance with directives from the Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Health Department. According to an official office order issued by the Medical Superintendent of Saidu Group of Teaching Hospitals (SGTH), the termination is based on correspondence from the provincial health authorities and a subsequent legal and policy review. The sacked employees include ward orderlies, sweepers, incinerator attendants, a lift operator, X-ray attendant, chowkidars, a naib qasid, and office orderlies. A majority of them were employed in basic pay scale (BPS) 2 to 4. This decision follows government letters dated April 3, March 17, and March 20, 2025, directing the removal of employees hired during the tenure of the caretaker setup. Many of the affected individuals were young workers, with birth years ranging from 1981 to 2006. The sources stated that the order has been forwarded to the Secretary Health Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the Director General Health Services, and the Chief Executive of the Saidu Group of Teaching Hospitals for record and further necessary action. The decision has raised concerns among the sacked staffers and their families, who now face uncertainty over their future employment. The interview, led by BBC’s Nada Tawfik, was recorded at what she described as 'a convenient meeting point,' located only a few miles from the Sussex family’s residence. Though not filmed at the Duke’s own home, the choice of location was clearly a strategic one, balancing accessibility with the family’s ongoing commitment to privacy. Tawfik confirmed the detail in her write-up, noting: \"The home wasn't his, but rather a convenient meeting point a few miles from where he lives with his wife Meghan and their two children Archie, five, and Lilibet, three.\" Nada revealed that the Duke of Sussex arrived solo, without any entourage, and made a warm first impression. \"He politely introduced himself and shook hands with everyone,\" she wrote, describing the encounter. She went on to praise Harry’s demeanor, calling him \"down-to-earth, softly spoken, and easy to talk to.\" \"Prince Harry was eager to share his feelings, despite the critical scrutiny that follows him,\" Tawfik revealed, noting his composed and thoughtful demeanor throughout. • "description": "The Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry’s Businessmen Panel (BMP) has asked the economic managers of the country to eliminate tax discrimination between different categories of medicines in the upcoming budget 2025-26.",
      • "content": "The Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry’s Businessmen Panel (BMP) has asked the economic managers of the country to eliminate tax discrimination between different categories of medicines in the upcoming budget 2025-26. In its budget proposals it called for applying a uniform 1% sales tax rate on all medicines—whether allopathic, homeopathic, or herbal—to ensure fairness, accessibility, and consistency in healthcare taxation. The issue was discussed in detail during the meeting between Mian Anjum Nisar and a delegation from the Homeopathic Pharmaceutical and Chemist Association Pakistan (HPCA), who met him in the lead of Dr. Amanullah Bismil, Patron-in-Chief of the HPCA on Saturday. The delegation included Dr. Ahsan Waris, Dr. Iqbal Hanif, Dr. Kashif Masood, and Saifurrahman Safi. The representatives shared their concerns regarding the unequal taxation structure, highlighting how it discourages the growth of the alternative medicine industry and limits consumer access to affordable treatment options. Chairman of the Businessmen Panel and former FPCCI president Mian Anjum Nisar pointed out that a significant disparity currently exists in the taxation system governing pharmaceutical and health-related products. Allopathic medicines—conventional pharmaceutical drugs—are taxed at a concessional rate of 1%, while homeopathic and herbal medicines are subject to a hefty 18% general sales tax (GST). This difference, he argued, is unjust and harmful, creating a disproportionate burden on consumers and manufacturers of non-allopathic medicines. “The current tax system promotes inequality within the healthcare sector,” Anjum Nisar said. “On the one hand, the government claims to prioritize public health and affordability; on the other hand, it penalizes manufacturers and users of homeopathic and herbal medicines with an unjustifiable tax rate. This contradictory policy undermines equitable healthcare access.” Dr. Bismil explained that the issue stems from outdated provisions in the Eighth Schedule of the Sales Tax Act, 1990, particularly Entry No. 81, which only refers to drugs registered under the now-repealed Drugs Act of 1976. That Act has since been replaced by the Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP) Act, 2012, which regulates all therapeutic goods—allopathic, homeopathic, herbal, and nutraceutical. According to Section 32 of the DRAP Act, its provisions take precedence over earlier or conflicting laws. However, the sales tax framework has not been updated to reflect this change, resulting in a legal loophole that excludes non-allopathic medicines from receiving the same tax relief as allopathic drugs. Dr. Bismil urged the Ministry of Finance and the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) to address this gap by amending the Eighth Schedule so that all DRAP-registered medicines are treated equally under the tax regime. He stressed that the amendment should be included in the Finance Bill 2025–26 and take effect from July 1, 2025. “This is the ideal time to correct this policy anomaly,” said Dr. Bismil. “As budget preparations are underway, the government must take this opportunity to demonstrate its commitment to inclusive healthcare, fair taxation, and support for local industries.” Anjum Nisar supported the delegation’s demands and assured them he would take the issue to the highest level to seek a resolution. He emphasized that millions of Pakistanis—especially those in rural areas and low-income groups—rely on homeopathic and herbal treatments. By taxing these products at a higher rate, the government is restricting access for the underprivileged and effectively pushing patients toward more expensive alternatives. He further highlighted the economic potential of the alternative medicine sector, which has demonstrated remarkable resilience despite facing regulatory neglect and tax pressures. “Pakistan has a rich heritage in traditional medicine systems, including homeopathy, Unani, and herbal formulations,” he said. “If supported through progressive policy and tax fairness, these industries can contribute billions to the national economy and expand into export markets across the Middle East, Africa, and Asia.” Anjum Nisar added that a uniform 1% tax rate across all medicines would promote transparency, compliance, and a healthier business environment. It would allow all sectors of the healthcare industry to grow side by side, encouraging innovation and ensuring that patients have access to diverse treatment options at fair prices. “This is not just a tax issue—it’s a healthcare issue and an economic opportunity,” Nisar concluded. “The government must seize this moment to harmonize the taxation structure, promote equity in healthcare, and support the broader goal of industrial development in Pakistan.” He warned that maintaining the current dual tax system would continue to distort the market, discourage formalization, and hurt small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) that make up the bulk of the homeopathic and herbal medicine industry.",

      • "description": "Markets post strong weekly gains amid signs of economic resilience and easing trade tensionsThe post Wall Street rallies as jobs data beats forecasts and U.S.-China trade talks stir hope appeared first on Profit by Pakistan Today.",
      • "content": "Markets post strong weekly gains amid signs of economic resilience and easing trade tensions Wall Street stocks climbed on Friday, capping a second straight week of gains as robust April jobs data and renewed prospects for U.S.-China trade negotiations lifted investor sentiment. The U.S. economy added 177,000 jobs in April, surpassing expectations, while the unemployment rate held steady at 4.2%. The figures helped soothe worries of an economic slowdown, which had been fueled by a recent government report showing a contraction in gross domestic product for the first time in three years. The decline was attributed in part to a surge in imports driven by tariff-related uncertainty. Investor mood was further buoyed by news that Beijing is reviewing an offer from Washington to restart trade talks. The development follows U.S. President Donald Trump’s early April announcement of sweeping 145% tariffs on Chinese imports. While the tariffs rattled markets, a partial rollback appears to have reassured investors, helping U.S. indexes rebound from the sharp slump that followed the announcement on April 2. The S&P 500 has now recovered those losses and is up 0.3% since April 2. On Friday, it recorded its ninth consecutive daily gain — matching a winning streak last seen in 2004. The Dow Jones Industrial Average achieved its own nine-session streak, the longest since December 2023. For the day, the S&P 500 rose 82.54 points, or 1.47%, to close at 5,686.68. The Dow gained 564.47 points, or 1.39%, ending at 41,317.43. The Nasdaq Composite added 266.99 points, or 1.51%, to finish at 17,977.73. For the week, the S&P 500 rose 2.9%, the Dow advanced 3%, and the Nasdaq climbed 3.43%. In the corporate sector, Apple Inc. shares fell nearly 4% after the company reduced its share buyback program by $10 billion. CEO Tim Cook also warned that tariffs could raise quarterly costs by approximately $900 million. Among the so-called “Magnificent Seven” tech stocks, Meta Platforms surged 4.3%, Nvidia rose 2.6%, and Amazon edged down 0.1%. Energy giants Chevron and ExxonMobil saw modest gains after releasing quarterly earnings, rising 1.6% and 0.4% respectively. Block Inc. plunged 20% after it cut its 2025 profit forecast and missed quarterly earnings expectations. Take-Two Interactive also dropped nearly 7% following its announcement that the release of “Grand Theft Auto VI” will be delayed until May 2026. Market breadth was solid, with advancing stocks outnumbering decliners by nearly four to one on the New York Stock Exchange. The S&P 500 logged 12 new 52-week highs and 3 new lows. The Nasdaq recorded 51 new highs and 38 new lows. • "content": "LIVERPOOL, England : Everton’s emotional farewell to Goodison Park continued on Saturday with an entertaining 2-2 Premier League draw against Ipswich Town as the relegated visitors came from two goals down to rescue a point. Beto and Dwight McNeil put Everton 2-0 up in the penultimate game at the famous old ground before the club move to a new home on the banks of the River Mersey next season. But a stunning strike from Julio Enciso and a late header by George Hirst brought Ipswich level as Everton failed to convert their chances to put the game to bed and had to settle for a 15th draw of the campaign. Everton moved to 14th place in the table with 39 points from 35 games, and Ipswich remained 18th. It was the last Saturday 3pm kick-off at Goodison Park some 132 years after the first with the final game at the grand old stadium against Southampton on Sunday May 18. \"It was nice to contribute again to the team because I have missed that feeling, it was just disappointing we could not get the victory,\" McNeil told Premier League Productions. \"We wanted to finish (at Goodison Park) on as high with two wins, not doing that today makes the last one against Southampton even more important.\" Everton will be frustrated they could not close out the match after taking a deserved 2-0 lead, but it was Ipswich who seemed the more likely winner at the end. \"I’m really proud. It was always going to be a tough game for us,\" Ipswich manager Kieran McKenna said. \"I don’t think it had been a 2-0 game, but the group responded really well. \"It took a great goal to get us back into it, but the group stuck together and I think we deserved at least a point.\" After a quiet opening 25 minutes, Everton hit the front as Carlos Alcaraz’s excellent cross from the left was guided into the net at the far post by Beto. McNeil, making his 100th appearance for the club, doubled the advantage 10 minutes later with a thunderous shot from 30-yards that had venom and swerve and left Ipswich goalkeeper Alex Palmer rooted to the spot. Ipswich hit back on 41 minutes with a stunning goal of their own. No Everton player closed down Enciso and he unleashed a brilliant strike from 35 yards that left home goalkeeper Jordon Pickford with no chance. Enciso fired straight at Pickford early in the second half, but the visitors did find an equaliser as Hirst headed in at the back post from Omari Hutchinson’s cross 11 minutes from the end.",

      • "content": "SWAT: Federal Minister for Kashmir Affairs, Gilgit-Baltistan, and SAFRON Engineer Amir Muqam on Saturday strongly rejected India’s baseless accusations against Pakistan, calling them unfounded propaganda. “If India tries to impose war on Pakistani, the entire nation will stand united alongside the armed forces to defend the motherland”, the minister declared while addressing various gatherings in Alpuri. During his visit to Shangla district, Muqam addressed different gatherings, including meetings with the newly-elected bodies of the District Bar Association, Muslim Lawyers Forum, All Teachers Association, and Judicial District Clerk Association. Muqam, who is the PML-N Khyber Pakhtunkhwa President, also participated in an open court with party representatives and the public. Highlighting the sacrifices of the people of Shangla, he stated, “The brave people of Shangla wrote history by standing firm against terrorism and offering great sacrifices. Even today, whenever national unity and integrity are at stake, the people of Shangla and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will be at the forefront.” The federal minister administered the oath to the newly-elected office-bearers of the District Bar Association Shangla, and announced a special grant for the Bar. On the occasion, the DBA granted honorary membership to the minister. Engineer Muqam emphasized that whenever given the opportunity, he has contributed to Shangla’s development and will continue to serve its people. Sharing his recent experience from the Line of Control (LoC) in Azad Jammu and Kashmir, where he spent three to four days, Muqam said, “The spirit and patriotism of the Kashmiri people are unmatched. Their love for Pakistan and the Pakistan Army is unwavering—this passion is our real strength.” He noted, “This is the difference between us and India—our people love and stand with their army. If war is forced upon us, every citizen will fight shoulder to shoulder with our soldiers. We are fortunate to be the heirs of those who sacrificed for the freedom of Kashmir, and we are ready to become martyrs or victorious defenders of our homeland.” Save my name, email, and website in this browser for the next time I comment. • "content": "There’s a phrase I remember hearing in my first week of law school: “The law is a jealous mistress.” I didn’t quite grasp its meaning at the time. Like many new students, I assumed the biggest hurdles would be mastering doctrine and passing exams. I saw graduation as the summit. In reality, that was just base camp.Fifteen years into practice, I now understand the truth that was quietly embedded in that warning: to serve the law is to serve a living, breathing entity—one that never stays still. Lifelong learning isn’t a luxury in this profession. It’s not a side project or an extracurricular. It is the job.I still remember the first time I was humbled by the limits of my legal knowledge. I had just started as a junior associate at a mid-sized firm, working primarily on commercial disputes. One of our long-standing clients asked if we could advise them on a new cross-border digital licensing agreement involving cloud software. I nodded confidently. After all, I had aced contracts law in school. But within minutes of reviewing the documentation, I was swamped into unfamiliar territory: evolving data privacy regulations, jurisdictional questions about servers, and cross-border enforcement issues I hadn’t even considered.I spent the next 48 hours buried in white papers, legal journals, and webinars, catching up on a world I’d never been taught. It was humbling but also thrilling. That project didn’t just change how I approached a client’s work; it changed how I viewed my responsibility to the law itself. Law school had given me a solid foundation, but the real work of becoming a competent and eventually trusted adviser would take place outside the classroom, year after year. The legal landscape is always in motion. New legislation, landmark rulings, global trends, and social movements shape the context in which we practice. Whether it’s the GDPR transforming data law, generative AI challenging notions of authorship, or climate litigation redefining accountability, lawyers are increasingly called upon to not only interpret the law but also help shape it.I’ve come to believe that one of the greatest disservices we can do to ourselves as professionals is to assume that knowledge has a shelf life. The truth is: it expires quickly. Some of my peers have pivoted entirely from criminal lawyers learning cybersecurity, corporate lawyers becoming ESG experts, or litigator colleagues upskilling in mediation as the courts became more crowded post-pandemic. The ones who flourish are not necessarily the ones with the most prestigious résumés, but those who stay curious, hungry, and open to reinvention.Clients don’t come to us with textbook problems, they come with real-world challenges shaped by modern realities. If we’re using decade-old knowledge or relying solely on intuition, we’re not giving them what they deserve. That doesn’t mean reinventing the wheel for every brief. But it does mean staying engaged with the legal landscape and being willing to adapt.I’ve found that clients often trust lawyers who are honest about what they’re still learning— as long as they’re clearly learning. There’s something powerful about saying, “That’s a developing area. Let me dig into it and get back to you.” It builds credibility, not weakness. At its core, the practice of law is a service, and clients are at the heart of that service. When legal professionals commit to continuous development, clients are the first to benefit. Staying current with legal trends and regulatory shifts means we can provide timely, relevant advice that helps clients stay compliant, competitive, and protected. Clients don’t just want legal answers; they want advisors who understand their businesses, anticipate their needs, and help them navigate uncertainty with confidence. Ultimately, when we grow professionally, we move from being service providers to strategic partners. So to the law students, junior lawyers, and even mid-career professionals who might feel stuck or stagnant: lean in. Let go of the pressure to have it all figured out. Instead, build habits of inquiry. Sign up for that webinar. Read outside your practice area. Challenge your assumptions. Volunteer for the assignment that stretches you. The law will never stop changing. But that’s not something to fear—it’s something to embrace. It means we get to grow alongside it. That we’re never truly done. And that’s what makes the work worth doing. If you commit to learning, the law will reward you not always in immediate wins or glowing evaluations, but in long-term resilience, deeper client relationships, and the quiet pride that comes from knowing you’re doing this job the way it was meant to be done: with integrity, curiosity, and care.In law, mastery isn’t about knowing everything it’s about staying open to everything. The more you learn, the more equipped you’ll be to help others, to think critically, and to shape the profession for the better. The legal landscape is in constant motion. New technologies emerge, societal norms shift, and global challenges demand new interpretations of justice. From landmark court decisions to evolving regulatory frameworks, the law reflects the complexities of the world we live in – and it does not stand still. This unrelenting pace of change presents both a challenge and an opportunity. For legal professionals, the call to adapt is more urgent than ever. Staying informed is no longer enough; we must stay agile, curious, and ready to evolve in step with or even ahead of the law itself. Beyond technical skills, developing soft skills such as communication, leadership, and emotional intelligence is essential to thriving in collaborative environments and delivering client-centred service. The law never stops evolving. Neither should we.At its core, the practice of law is a service, and clients are at the heart of that service. In this environment, legal excellence is not a fixed destination, it’s a moving target. And that’s what makes our profession both demanding and deeply rewarding. To serve justice faithfully, we must grow with it. Because when the law evolves, so must we.",

      • "content": "Blake Lively reveals rare details about youngest son Olin Blake Lively dishes on how son Olin is ‘different’ from sisters Blake Lively opened up about her bond with her kids in a latest interview, sharing how they have been the light of her life during the past year. The 37-year-old actress shared that the youngest of her kids, son Olin, 2, has been the most different one to raise. The Gossip Girl alum called her toddler a “dream” but also one of the reasons why her house is “chaos at all times” along with daughters James, 10, Inez, 8, and Betty, 5. During her interview at Late Night With Seth Meyers , Lively said, “My little boy is so romantic. When I walk in, he goes, ‘Mama, my love!'” Sharing her experience of raising a son after her girls, Lively said, “It’s different. He just, like, announces that I’m the love of his life at all times, which is just the best feeling in the world.” The Another Simple Favor star continued, “I get dressed every day like I’m a girl in middle school. Like, ‘Oh, my gosh ... I hope he, like, says something.'” Joking about the stark difference with her daughters, Lively shared that they “criticize [her] outfits,” calling one of her girls a “blend” of her birthday twins Napoleon Bonaparte and Jennifer Lawrence. “She’s the funniest person in the world, but she will definitely rule the world with authoritarian leadership,” Lively added, referring to her daughter Betty. Lively went on to shed light on the past year, with her legal battle with Justin Baldoni going on, sharing that it has been “the best” to have her kids by her side during her “lowest lows.” King Charles makes big decision after receiving Harry's emotional message Prince Harry's court loss fuels claims of cost cutting motive Beyonce gives heartfelt tribute to mom Tina Knowles at Cowboy Carter Tour Aimee Hall remembers late ‘Floribama Shore’ star Kirk Medas",

      • "content": "The recent assault on tourists in Pahalgam, a scenic region but the world’s most militarized, has significantly raised several questions. The attack framed by Indian authorities and media as a brutal act of violence, deserves a neutral and accountable investigation which may expose a pro-Indian narrative that undermines Pakistan’s sovereignty and portrays only Muslims as terrorists, especially Pakistani Muslims. The time and place of an incident also have similar patterns, as followed by the old Indian narrative building. As always, India has systematically propagated terror attacks during high-profile visits to capture global attention over the Kashmir issue, depicting India as a victim of cross-border terrorism and Muslims as perpetrators.Without providing concrete evidence, Indian media, just a few minutes after, directly pointed fingers at Pakistan for conducting a terror attack in the so-called mini-Switzerland of Indian-Occupied Kashmir. Even in the presence of 800,000 Indian soldiers, surveillance infrastructure including drones, biometric checkpoints, and electronic monitoring, the state of India has failed to provide a single biometric evidence or CCTV footage that may allegedly link to Pakistan. The lack of independent and non-concrete evidence that would link the alleged attackers to Pakistan-sponsored groups further exposes India-sponsored propaganda against Pakistan. The portrayal of Pakistan as the inherent aggressor and perpetrator of terrorism serves both global and domestic purposes.Globally, India covers the sins with accusations by externalizing internal issues with a perpetual blame game. By framing terror attacks as foreign-sponsored terror, silences the questions about local grievances, genocide in Indian-Occupied Kashmir, and illegal occupation of Jammu and Kashmir by the Indian Army. This is not an isolated incident, a multidimensional strategy followed by a cycle of false flag operations including the Mumbai Attacks in 2008, the Pulwama Attacks, and the Balakot airstrikes. In the 2000s Chattisinghpora massacre, initially blamed on Pakistani militants, later yielded concrete evidence suggesting the involvement of Indian security forces, confirmed through a CBI investigation and reported by The Hindu (2003).However, domestically, it has been the time-tested formula for India to polarize Indian people in the name of Pakistan and Muslims that successfully serve their political campaigns for maximum vote bank. India’s most popular political party BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) functions on the notion of Akhand Bharat (Greater India), viewing Muslims as foreign invaders leads to tense relationships between Muslims and Hindus of India and state-sponsored violence on Indian Muslims as well. Attacks like Pahalgam are often leveraged to frame an antagonist narrative about Pakistan and gain domestic Hindu nationalist sentiments. But these baseless allegations along with media amplification, despite operating neutrally, function as psychological monitoring to accept punitive measures including military, economic, and diplomatic against Pakistan.Nevertheless, the fabricated, sensationalized, and engineered narrative by Indian state-owned media channels has faced mounting criticism from within India itself, exposing the cracks in the country’s propaganda machinery. Several videos have been circulating where Indian citizens have exposed Indian propaganda machinery that moulds these attacks into cross-border terrorism rather than prompting a re-evaluation of domestic security and intelligence failures.Pakistan always errs by placing itself in a defensive position, and instead of merely rebutting, it should strongly highlight grave human rights violations and crackdowns in Indian-occupied Kashmir, where civilians remain at perpetual risk. To counter these false narratives imposed by India, the Pakistani media landscape must evolve from defensive rebuttals to proactive truth-telling rather than countering Indian false accusations. Pakistani journalists must collaborate with global and international investigators and journalists to highlight human rights violations in Indian-Occupied Kashmir. In contrast to India’s theatrics, Pakistan’s response has been characterized by restraint and strategic clarity, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and opposition leaders have categorically condemned the tragic incident while rejecting baseless allegations. Addressing a passing-out parade at Pakistan Military Academy Kakul, the PM said, “Pakistan is open to participating in any neutral, transparent, and credible investigation”.The premier criticized India for continuing with a “pattern of exploitation”, leveling baseless allegations and false accusations without credible investigation or verifiable evidence. Whereas former Foreign Minister of Pakistan Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari called for a UN-mediated investigation and multilateral dialogue between India and Pakistan further illustrates Pakistan’s commitment to more legal, diplomatic, and justified avenues, a stark counterpoint to India’s belligerent moves.Notably, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has urged both Pakistan and India to exercise maximum restraint, and to ensure that the situation and developments do not deteriorate further. Far from promoting peace, India is fanning the flames through sensationalized and distorted narratives and acts of war. While Pakistan seeks more legal and diplomatic measures to respond to India’s disturbing moves that may end in regional instability. Continuous building of false narratives and accusations of cross-border terrorism without evidence would further exacerbate the conflict.Pakistan always errs by placing itself in a defensive position, and instead of merely rebutting, it should strongly highlight grave human rights violations and crackdowns in Indian-occupied Kashmir, where civilians remain at perpetual risk. To counter these false narratives imposed by India, the Pakistani media landscape must evolve from defensive rebuttals to proactive truth-telling rather than countering Indian false accusations. • "content": "Sirri Sureyya Onder, a veteran politician who won respect across Turkey's political spectrum for his efforts to end years of conflict with the country's Kurdish ethnic minority, has died aged 62, an Istanbul hospital said on Saturday. A lawmaker from the pro-Kurdish DEM party who served as parliament's deputy speaker, Onder died two and a half weeks after undergoing heart surgery following a cardiac arrest on April 15. The episode left him in critical condition, prompting an outpouring of concern including from President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who accuses DEM of ties to the banned Kurdish militant group PKK. Erdogan had called Onder's daughter to say he was \"closely\" monitoring her father's health, and on Saturday expressed his \"sadness\" at the news of his death. \"I sincerely believe that we will reach the goal of a Turkey without terrorism which the mourned Onder had worked for so much in recent times,\" the Turkish president said. Born in 1962 into a Turkish socialist family in Adiyaman, in the Kurdish-majority southeast, Onder grew up immersed in both cultures, and went on to play a key role in helping to facilitate peace talks that began in 2013. \"His temperament and career path made him a real expert in talking with everyone,\" Ertugrul Kurkcu, former head of the now-defunct HDP party, DEM's predecessor, told AFP. His role as a peacemaker came to the fore in recent months when he travelled three times to Imrali island to meet Abdullah Ocalan, the jailed founder of the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), as part of a small DEM delegation. The aim was to advance a fresh dialogue bid initiated by Ankara seeking to end the decades-long conflict with the PKK that has claimed over 40,000 lives. After his last visit on February 27, the delegation returned with a historic letter from Ocalan urging his militants to lay down their arms and disband. \"I will be the postman of peace, if necessary. I'll give my life for that,\" Onder said. Known for his stubborn determination and irrepressible sense of humour, his efforts to promote peace won him widespread respect. \"Events may seem depressing, but in reality, better days are just around the corner,\" he said with a smile in 2018, just before being jailed for a year on charges of spreading \"terrorist propaganda\". He was 16 when he first went to prison after joining a demonstration, and following a military coup in 1980 he was jailed again for joining a student protest, spending seven years behind bars and experiencing torture. Before entering politics, he had a varied career path, working as an apprentice photographer, lorry driver, builder and columnist. He also wrote and acted in the 2006 film \"Beynelmilel\" (\"The International\") about repression after the 1980 coup. \"While most Turkish films about the coup focus on the defeat and discouragement of the left, 'Beynelmilel' is one of the few films on the subject that offers hope,\" said Turkish cinema specialist Mazlum Vesek. After entering parliament in 2011, Onder became a prominent political figure during the 2013 Gezi Park protests that began in Istanbul over plans to raze a park. \"I also represent the trees!\" he shouted at police at the time. After Onder's hospitalisation in April, PKK founder Ocalan sent him a message of support, noting his \"huge efforts for peace\". \"He is a person who was able to break down prejudices within society, within parliament and on the streets,\" he said. \"His ability to cope with and manage adversity is important; he is able to turn negative situations into positive situations without making them worse.\"",

      • "content": "India miscalculated bigtime India roared, and the world shrugged. The Modi government’s reaction to the Pahalgam attack was so predictable that it was almost comical: within hours, without any inquiry or supporting documentation, New Delhi pointed the quivering finger directly at Pakistan. For anyone even vaguely familiar with the BJP’s stale political strategy, it was déjà vu. All the states deeply condemned terrorism and the killing of innocents, including Pakistan, However, what utterly disappointed India was how none of them blamed Pakistan just because India claimed Pakistan to be guilty. Right there India knew something was different this time. The world did not follow India’s manufactured rhythm this time. No loud denunciations. No fireworks from the diplomatic side. There isn’t a global chorus supporting India’s unfounded accusations of “terrorism.” Just quiet. Silence, cold and calculated. And the loudest diplomatic rebuke India has heard in years has resulted from that silence. India thought the world would follow suit. They thought Washington, London, and Brussels would repeat New Delhi’s hysterical headlines and swallow its half-baked narratives whole once more. After all, hasn’t this always worked in the past? Make accusations against Pakistan, incite domestic indignation, and incite nationalist fervour— and then watch as the world goes along. However, India was greeted with disinterest rather than cheers. Doubt is even worse. The very basis of India’s foreign policy aspirations has been rocked by the international response— or lack thereof. The world has been watching, but the Modi regime was too drunk on its own propaganda to notice. Observing India’s transformation from “the largest democracy in the world” to a paranoid, ultra-nationalist nation fixated on projecting its own shortcomings. Observing how its government transformed journalism into treason, dissent into sedition, and diplomacy into a public relations campaign. Pakistan opted for diplomacy over drama, while India frothed at the mouth. Islamabad exemplified statesmanship in its response to the Pahalgam incident. There was only a firm, dignified demand for evidence, impartiality, and truth— no irate rhetoric or retaliatory bluster. With the kind of poise that highlighted how frequently Pakistan has been the target of Indian scapegoating, Pakistan’s Foreign Office declared, “False flags and premature accusations serve no one.” “Pakistan, the region’s largest victim of terrorism, demands evidence, not propaganda.” Pakistan changed the course of events with that one statement. In a volatile neighbourhood, it positioned itself as the mature actor rather than the accused. The world was urged to wait for facts by Pakistan, not India. For once, the world paid attention. The biggest irony in India’s diplomatic meltdown may be that, despite advocating for victims on the international scene, it is also charged with planning real state-sponsored killings abroad. Let’s go back. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau delivered a political bombshell in June 2023 when he claimed that India was responsible for the British Columbia assassination of Sikh leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar. This was more than just an accusation; it was supported by surveillance, intelligence, and the full force of Canada’s legal system. As expected, India denied it. However, the world took notice. The USA followed. The FBI revealed an Indian plot to kill another Sikh activist in New York in November 2023. They made arrests. The names were made public. Indian intelligence networks were directly linked. India suddenly appeared to be the wolf itself, rather than just a nation that was crying wolf. Indian death squads operating inside Pakistan’s borders have also been a silent horror. Surgical strikes of shadow warfare— targeted killings committed with impunity— have silenced critics, dissidents, and voices of resistance. This is a pattern, not conjecture. Let us now pose the question that the world is finally starting to consider: How can a country that conducts international assassination campaigns maintain its moral superiority in the fight against terrorism? US Secretary of State Marco Rubio called both Islamabad and New Delhi during this geopolitical conflagration. Even though the events of these meetings didn’t make for dramatic headlines, they had profound implications. Rubio established a respectful and cooperative relationship with Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif. He declared, “We acknowledge the sacrifices made by Pakistan and the necessity of dialogue over division.” His remarks, which were a clear indication of Washington’s shifting focus, highlighted regional stability and praised Pakistan’s counterterrorism efforts. Compare that to the formal, uncomfortable appearance of Rubio’s meeting with S. Jaishankar, the Indian External Affairs Minister. No reference to Pakistan’s responsibility. No flaming proclamations. merely ambiguous requests for “continued engagement.” It was an opportunity to take pictures. Not a collaboration. Sadly, India’s attempt to persuade the USA to support it was unsuccessful. The collapse of what many refer to as the “Modi Doctrine,” a self-proclaimed vision of Indian global dominance based on performance, projection, and propaganda, lies at the core of this diplomatic disaster. Dominance without legitimacy, however, is an illusion. The illusion is now dissolving. The Modi administration has used accusations of terrorism as a domestic tool. There is a sudden “terror incident,” a spike in anti-Pakistan rhetoric, and the domestic demonization of minorities during every election season. The world has finally grown weary of the act, and the script is so overdone that it is now laughable. Even worse, India’s own actions are damaging its reputation. The democratic mask has fallen, from burning churches in Manipur to demolishing Muslim homes in Delhi, from stifling Kashmiri voices to imposing gag orders on journalists. What’s left is a Hindutva-inspired government that is nauseous and intolerant of criticism. Pakistan has been demonized on the global scene for years, frequently unjustly and frequently as an easy scapegoat for India’s shortcomings. However, Islamabad has been subtly restoring its reputation around the world in recent years by being open, patient, and diplomatic. Pakistan is reclaiming its position as a responsible international actor by hosting high-level discussions with China, the USA, and Gulf states, as well as by actively participating in forums related to economics, climate change, and counterterrorism. And that consistent diplomatic work is now bearing fruit in the wake of the Pahalgam incident. The Modi administration made a mistake. It believed that everyone would follow its falsehoods. It believed that traditional stories would be relevant in the modern era. However, things have changed. With its foreign policy in ruins, its moral posture in ruins, and its diplomatic credibility at an all-time low, India is vulnerable today. In the meantime, the long-maligned and misunderstood Pakistan is defended. Pakistan, not India, has become the voice of reason in a world that is becoming more and more wary of sensationalism and insatiably curious about the truth. The propaganda is no longer credible. The lie was not believed by the world. A new reality has surfaced in that silence: Pakistan is writing the next chapter in India’s history, which has ended the period of its undisputed narrative. • "description": "The premier of Yemen’s internationally recognised government, former diplomat and foreign minister Ahmed Bin Mubarak, announced his resignation on Saturday, saying he was unable to fully exercise his powers.Yemen’s government withdrew to Aden in the south after Houthi rebels seized the capital Sanaa in 2014 and then went on to control most population centres in the impoverished Arabian Peninsula country.A Saudi-led military coalition intervened in support of beleaguered government forces in 2015, but with little success.“I have just met with His Excellency the Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council, Dr Rashad Al-Alimi, and resigned as Prime Minister,” Bin Mubarak posted on X, also sharing his resignation letter.“I could not exercise my constitutional powers and take the necessary decisions to reform government institutions or implement rightful governmental changes,” the letter said. His move comes as the Houthis wage a campaign of missile attacks on Israel and target shipping in key waterways in what they say is a show of solidarity with Palestinians over the conflict in Gaza.Bin Mubarak said that despite obstacles, he had managed to achieve “many successes in a short space of time”, citing fiscal and administrative reforms and an anti-corruption drive. However, analyst Mohammed Albasha, of the US-based Basha Report Risk Advisory, told AFP that Bin Mubarak had been “in constant friction with the Presidential Leadership Council”.Albasha said the main driver behind the resignation was that “Bin Mubarak wanted to be more than prime minister — he wanted the powers of the presidency. That aspiration isolated him politically.“His drive for greater power — viewed by many as fuelled by personal ambition — led to repeated confrontations with key ministers and most Council members.”“Over time, this power struggle eroded trust,” he added.‘Deep divisions’Bin Mubarak, Yemen’s former ambassador to the United States, is a staunch adversary of the Houthis, who abducted him in 2015 and held him captive for several days.He previously served as chief of staff of the presidential office and was also appointed Yemen’s envoy to the United Nations in 2018. He was appointed foreign minister in 2018 and prime minister on February 5, 2024.Bin Mubarak called on the European Union to designate the Houthis a terrorist group, and advocated increased military support for government forces as the Houthis launched Red Sea attacks. His departure should “ease internal tensions and reduce the deep divisions that have plagued Yemen’s internationally recognised government — a necessary and positive step toward restoring cohesion”, Albasha said. {try{this.style.height=this.contentWindow.document.body.scrollHeight+'px';}catch{}}, 100)\" width=\"100%\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" style=\"height:250px;position:relative\" src=\"https://www.dawn.com/news/card/1683689\" sandbox=\"allow-same-origin allow-scripts allow-popups allow-modals allow-forms\"> The conflict in Yemen has caused hundreds of thousands of deaths and triggered one of the world’s worst humanitarian crises, although the fighting has decreased significantly since the United Nations negotiated a six-month truce in April 2022.Since fighting in the Gaza Strip broke out in October 2023 after Hamas attacked Israel, the Houthis have repeatedly targeted Israel and ships in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden that they say are linked to it.The Houthis paused their attacks during a recent two-month Gaza ceasefire, but in March, their threat to resume attacks over Israel’s aid blockade of Gaza triggered a renewed and sustained US air campaign targeting areas in Yemen under rebel control.",

      • "content": "KARACHI, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 3rd May, 2025) Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has expressed serious concern over the heavy traffic congestion in the port area following the reopening of Baber Loi Road after an 11-day closure. The CM said this road blockage had halted cargo movements from upcountry, and upon resumption, the simultaneous influx of inbound and outbound traffic resulted in significant gridlock. He emphasised that recurring traffic congestion, especially during the berthing of multiple ships at China Port (SAPT) or after public disruptions, leads to substantial economic losses and inconvenience. Mr. Shah has directed the traffic police to address the current crisis and implement measures to prevent future occurrences. These measures include establishing a 24/7 Traffic Monitoring Cell near the port, implementing staggered entry timings for cargo vehicles to regulate movement, creating temporary parking zones to manage truck flow, holding daily coordination meetings between port authorities, police, and logistics companies, identifying and utilizing alternate routes to divert excess traffic, implementing a digital slot booking system for cargo dispatch and arrival, deploying response teams to clear bottlenecks, and ensuring continuous public communication through media updates and traffic alerts. The Chief Minister has instructed all relevant departments to act swiftly and collaboratively to restore smooth traffic operations and facilitate trade activities at the port.",

      • "description": "United Nations special envoy Geir Pedersen urged Israel Saturday to halt its attacks on Syria \"at once\", after it carried out multiple air strikes targeting the Islamist-led authorities following sectarian violence this week.",
      • "content": "United Nations special envoy Geir Pedersen urged Israel Saturday to halt its attacks on Syria \"at once\", after it carried out multiple air strikes targeting the Islamist-led authorities following sectarian violence this week. Fresh Israeli raids were reported overnight, after Israel said repeatedly that its forces stood ready to protect the Druze minority after sectarian clashes killed 119 people, mostly Druze fighters, according to a Britain-based war monitor. Since ousting longtime ruler Bashar al-Assad in December, Syria's new authorities -- who have roots in Al-Qaeda -- have vowed inclusive rule in the multi-confessional, multi-ethnic country, but they must also contend with pressure from radical Islamists in their ranks. \"I strongly condemn Israel's continued and escalating violations of Syria's sovereignty, including multiple air strikes in Damascus and other cities,\" Pedersen said in a post on X, calling \"for these attacks to cease at once\". The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said more than 20 strikes hit military targets across Syria late Friday, in the \"heaviest\" assault carried out by Israel on its neighbour this year. Syria's state news agency SANA reported strikes near Damascus and in the country's centre, west and south, saying one civilian was killed. An Israeli military statement said its forces \"struck a military site, anti-aircraft cannons and surface-to-air missile infrastructure in Syria\". It did not give further details. Firas Aabdeen, 32, a member of the security forces in Harasta near Damascus where one of the attacks hit, said he heard several \"very loud\" strikes and that a largely disused Assad-era military barracks was targeted. The barrage followed an Israeli attack near the presidential palace in Damascus early on Friday, which Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defence Minister Israel Katz called a \"clear message\" to Syria's new rulers. \"We will not allow forces to be sent south of Damascus or any threat to the Druze community,\" they said. Israeli foe Iran, which propped up the now ousted Assad government, condemned the strikes, accusing Israel of seeking to \"destroy and annihilate the defence, economic and infrastructure capabilities of Syria as an independent country\". Lebanon's Iran-backed Hezbollah group, also an Assad ally, said that the attacks were \"a clear attempt to undermine\" and weaken Syria. The Israeli military said it was \"deployed in southern Syria\" and \"prepared to prevent the entry of hostile forces into the area of Druze villages\". Since the collapse of the Assad government late last year, Israeli troops have entered the UN-patrolled buffer zone on the Golan Heights and have carried out incursions deeper into southern Syria. It was not immediately clear whether the Israeli army was speaking of a new deployment or how many troops were involved. A Druze official in the community's heartland in Sweida province, said there had been \"no deployment of Israeli soldiers\" there. This week, Druze clerics and armed factions reaffirmed their loyalty to a united Syria, following clashes between Druze fighters and loyalists of the new government. The unrest in Sweida and the southern suburbs of the capital was sparked by the circulation of an audio recording attributed to a Druze citizen and deemed blasphemous. AFP was unable to confirm its authenticity. The Observatory and Druze residents said forces affiliated with the new government attacked the towns of Jaramana and Sahnaya near Damascus and clashed with Druze gunmen. The government blamed \"outlaw groups\" for the violence. A de-escalation deal saw government troop deploy in Sahnaya and tighter security around Jaramana. Israel's military said \"five Syrian Druze citizens were evacuated to receive medical treatment in Israel overnight\" after sustaining injuries in Syria. The Druze official in Sweida said they were wounded \"in clashes in Sahnaya\" and feared being detained if they sought treatment in Damascus. Middle East analyst Andreas Krieg said Israel was \"directly interfering in the transition process in Syria\". Israel is using the Druze issue \"as some sort of pretext to justify their military occupation\" of parts of Syria, he told AFP.",
